Thursday:
Thusday was my big agency-visit day. Featherweight came down to visit
kesteral and I fr the day, so he chaperoned my visit. I'm glad my visit there was quite fast since there was nobody else in the waiting area, and no magazines of interest to him ^_^
So, how did it go? Well, I don't like the modeling industry and their backwards compliments. The agency liked my "look" and photos, but won't sign me. Why? My "look" is high fashion, which is great except that I'm an inch short of the absolute minimum height for high fashion. And they can't offer me any commercial/editorial work even though it's what they specialize in. So although they did give me a list of other agencies to check out, I'm sure I'll hear the same thing from all of them. The bottom line is that I can't get a job modeling. (that reminds me... I have to send Ben an "I told you so" message)
Featherweight and I bummed around the Batcave and the Annex for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Watched some Venture Bros, and Tried out Thai Spring Roll on Bloor for dinner (their Pad Thai was EXCELLENT, I highly recommend it). Back at the Bat Cave, he, Victoria, Amy and I all marathon-ed How I Met Your Mother S3 while working on various costume projects. I, intent on completing my Ruby Slippers, spent most of the night beading, until I realized there was only an hour left until I had to leave for Union, and I still hadn't packed, gotten a costume ready, looked up the route from Gare Centrale to the hotel, etc.
What I ended up deciding was that Gabe would be too much work with all the makeup involved, so I was going to bring my fairy costume. But I was only halfway through the process of picking out all my quickly dissolving seams and reconstructing it with french seams, and had left it too long to reassemble in time. All the shoes' fault... otherwise I would have had it re-sewn a week ago. What I did do was stuff my Goldeen yukata in my bag. Sure it was wrinkled and peach instead of white, but it was clean at least and ready to go. I realized at Union station while getting on the train that I had forgotten not only the obi at home, but also the ties to hold the whole thing together T_T Preparation FAIL; costume FAIL. (and more planning FAIL when I got to Montreal and discovered my cell battery was dead)
Travel:
The train ride out to Montreal was uneventful at least. I had intended to spent most of the trip beading but ended up sleeping most of the way instead. Trade off for spending the night with the shoes I figure ^_^. Anyways, I got to Montreal safe and sound. My original plan had been to explore the city until the con started, but by the time I had found food, a bank, and the hotel, I was too tired to want to go out and get lost and potentially miss something I wanted to see. I was happier relaxing in my room anyways. Shower + So You Think You Can Dance Canada + beads was nice.
Con:
I'm not going to bore you with too many details of the con. I went to panels almost all day each day and really enjoyed them.
Got my book signed, didn't really make any new friends but I did meet some interesting people. The masquerade was very small, but all the entries were solid. Oddly enough, even without costume I somehow managed to get myself a mini-photoshoot. I might be a ghostie in some "
haunted art" in the future. I only took one photo all weekend, and it was pretty much just to check whether photos taken of the masquerade would turn out... they wouldn't. There were official photographers taking photos of everything all weekend anyways. I had a good time all around, but I don't know if I'd go back. It's an expensive trip, especially to do alone.
Montreal:
I really didn't see any of the city besides a couple of blocks between Gare Centrale and the con. It's partially that I didn't have the time and energy between the con and the train, but also because I'm very very uncomfortable with French. Last time I was in Quebec I would have been 14... I'd forgotten what it's like. I still remember most of my vocabulary from school, but I can't string it all together coherently. I can listen to people having a conversation in French and understand enough to know what they're talking about, but if I order food, I'm stumped if I'm asked a question (the poor guy at Tim Hortons asked me "pain blanc ou brun?" three times before I caught it >_<). Next time I travel anywhere I don't know the language, I'm not going alone. Ugh.
Travel:
The trip back was more productive than the one out at least. I traded between reading and beading the whole way. As it turned out, Chris Warrilow was sitting in front of me on the train and we introduced ourselves pretty much as the train pulled into Union >_<. Still, aside from my disasterous planning, it was a good trip.
Shoes:
Despite beading on the trip there, in my hotel room when I was chilling, on the trip back, and while watching the new How I Met Your Mother and old Big Bang Theory episodes with
kesteral tonight, I still don't have even one shoe done. I can say with 100% certainty that they will not be ready in time for Halloween, even if I wasn't working between now and then. Apparently I've been posting too many photos of my progress, since Some of you are seeing my shoes in your dreams... Too bad! have some more:

nowIt seems that the best plan currently is to just make a couple new shoe covers since the bead ones aren't permanently attached yet, and to slap sequins on them. It'll be sloppy, but at least I'll have a pair of wearable ruby slippers in time.
