So yeah, there's this thing floating around where you write down little things about your character that inform how you play them in camp? I need in on some of that shit. Any excuse to babble about someone I'm playing. Of course, with a canon like Himeko's, "facts" tend to get a little elastic, but nonetheless, here we go. (P.S. I'll get back to drabbles soon I swear.)
Much like Tomo, I generally have no idea what I'm going to do in one of these until I actually get started.
Himeko is omni-enthusiastic. I mentioned this in the canon section of her app--her default reaction to any situation is cheerful enthusiasm. New teacher? OMEGA BIG AWESOME NEWS! Exploring a half-ruined, possibly haunted building? OH DUDE I HOPE A GHOST SHOWS UP! Big test coming up? I LOVE TESTS I GET TO SLEEP! ...So yeah. Even in situations where one might normally expect her to be at least somewhat worried, Himeko tends to go for the bright side of things. There are exceptions, of course. She wasn't completely happy about being stuck in the back of a bus that was teetering over a cliff. But even though she wasn't properly enthusiastic in that situation, she still reacted with energy and determination, proclaiming herself the savior of the bus and doing her best to maintain the vehicle's precarious balance. (She also climbed right back in after falling out.)
Himeko isn't particularly good at anything. Another thing I mentioned in the canon. She's academically lacking (duh), she runs around alot but isn't really coordinated enough to be an athlete, and all in all just can't concentrate long enough on any one task to get it done--but while she is focused on a given task, she'll throw herself into it with gusto. As Rei points out, this is her only real strong point.
Himeko always means well. Seriously, the girl doesn't have a malicious bone in her body. Though she's often compared to Tomo when Azumanga/Pani Poni comparisons come up, she's very, very different in this respect--Tomo intentionally annoys people; Himeko, while she does often end up annoying people, never means to. She's always trying to help or have fun, and tends to be shocked when people react poorly to this. Which leads to the next point...
Himeko does not think of herself in any sort of negative light. Another difference from Tomo--well, okay, Tomo doesn't think of herself poorly either, but she expects people to retaliate/yell/hit back. Himeko doesn't. Because, of course, she doesn't think she's bothering anyone in the first place. So when people put her down or do mean things to her, she takes it hard. Really hard. She cries when Becky calls her an idiot and freaks out when she finds out Becky doesn't remember her name; she starts yelling and pitching a fit when Rei and the others tie her up at one point. She always experiences some sort of "WTF!" moment when people react negatively to her.
However, Himeko forgives quickly. Or maybe it should be said that she forgets easily. She just doesn't have the attention span to hold a grudge, nor does her basic personality really lend itself to that. Becky's insults have her in tears in one breath, but in the next she'll be all over Becky again, defending Becky against Rei, that sort of thing.
Himeko may or may not be a lolicon. I--gah, the word "pedophile" seems way too heavy for a series like PPD!, but, I mean. It is canon that she hits on an underaged girl. She gets huggy with Becky, she invites Becky back to her house (at one point attempting to lure her with candy), she makes comments that sound really inappropriate ("come play all night with Big Sister Himeko, Becky!")...uh...yeah.
On the other hand, Himeko may have no idea what she's saying. At one point, the PPD! crew gets zapped by a malfunctioning mind-reading machine and everyone ends up getting thrown into the world of Himeko's dreams. They make their way into the deepest reaches of Himeko's heart, where they see a child Himeko running around, chasing butterflies in a field of wildflowers. Rei concludes that Himeko is still essentially a child at heart. This would explain a lot about her, but it makes one wonder about all her macking on Becky.
Himeko is completely obsessed with crab. We don't know exactly why--not that it really matters--but she can go on and on about crab to the point of annoyance for everyone around her. And yet, from the dream episode, we know she's never had good crab in her entire life. XD When her classmates eat crab in a restaurant her dreamworld conjures up, it tastes awful, and Rei recognizes that this is because this is the only taste of crab that Himeko is familiar with (despite the fact that the crab looks really high-quality). So apparently Himeko is not actually that picky about her food.
That's about all I can think of for now. XD May add more later. THESE ARE FUN!
