Now that I've somewhat recovered from the delightful shock to my personal life (I'm only dancing on the inside now), let's all carry on, shall we? I have some things to share:
First,
Madeleine L'Engle passed away at 88. I've never actually read any of her books (and upon reading that, I know that Laura shall immediately commence gasping like a fish out of water and scolding me and--hopefully--sending me books), but I probably shall now. Terrible as it sounds, I am glad that we will be able to put together a halfway-decent looking display of her works, which we were not able to do with Pavarotti, as we only had about one each of any of his cds (including Three Tenor albums). Plus, some news station reviewed one cd in particular and our distributor is clean out of them, so we're unable to order any.
What is it about someone dying that makes people want desperately to read their words or hear their voice, even if they haven't shown any interest in them for years? (Although there was the little Eastern European lady who informed me that she spent Thursday listening to her Pavarotti albums and crying.)
Majorie M. Liu, a favored author of mine (known to LJ as
webpetals) is in the unenviable position of missing out on the Beijing Book Festival due to a delayed visa, but the enviable one of having parents with current visas and a camera. Why is this enviable?
Because Neil Gaiman was there, of course! Here are a couple of comics which made me laugh today:
Finally, I went over the the store this morning to take lunch with Adam (
thestraymutt) and Erin (
uselessplayback), to apologize to Erin (she was with That Guy and I when we say 3:10 to Yuma last night and apparently felt quite the 5th wheel), and not to stalk anybody who might happen to be working at the store today. Although, when That Guy walked by, Adam struck a pose and, turning to me, exclaimed "Kelly, how could you do this to me--I told you how I felt about him!" So much for trying to keep this out of the workplace. Damnit.
Anyway, I purchased the newest
Edward Gorey anthology,
Amphigorey Again, and am feeling quite pleased with myself. I freaking love Edward Gorey. Isn't it pretty?
