So the last couple of weeks have not been kind to me, much of which I've alluded to in past entries. But, to recap.
My grandmother had a stroke on Friday, February 23rd, just five days after the family celebrated her 90th birthday. She died the next day, on February 24th, a day before the 16th anniversary of her husband, my grandfather's death, and two days before my mother's birthday. Because of my aunt and uncle's pressing need to leave for Hawaii on Tuesday, we had to pull everything together in a little over a day.
Her obituary appeared in the Monday and Tuesday Washington Post and the Tuesday Washington Times, and the memorial service took place on Monday morning. We were back at Washington Golf and Country Club celebrating my grandmother's life once more, just 8 days after her birthday party.
Because of the snow we had on Sunday, my brother was not able to get a flight home (despite having had reservations and spending 5 hours at the Denver airport), so on Tuesday, my parents and I drove 7 hours to Statesville, NC, my grandfather's home town. We buried her on Wednesday morning, had lunch at the country club with a group of Carolina cousins, then got back on the road. So, yeah. Nearly 800 miles in two days. It was a little harsh. There's so much sorting and cleaning to do now, and all of it's fallen to my mother, as she is the nearest of the siblings, is not the VP of a major corporation, and is not in Hawaii. So that's my sad story.
In happier news, today is my best girl's birthday! Happy 22nd, Laur!!
Also new, I have acquired an obsession. It all started with
this post of
dhio's. For whatever reason, the concept of gay lawyers intrigued me and I did some research. Ladies and gentlemen, meet
Phoenix Wright. I bought a DS for this game, and man was it worth it. I played the entirety of Justice for All in the space of some 3 days, and so help me I will get a copy of Ace Attorney if it kills me. I am so in love with Phoenix and Edgeworth (the characters and the pairing) that it's caused me to search out fan fiction and fan art, such as
this (and even
this, God help me). I've since also purchased
Lunar Knights after observing that both Sam (
kouryou04) and Adam (
thestraymutt) were playing the heck out of it. I have joined them in this insanity. It's a good game.
I do have work I should be doing, but before I go, I should acknowledge my beautiful new mood theme featuring Rose Tyler, everyone's favourite companion (well, my favourite companion). The theme was made by
crackified and came complete with
nice detailed instructions. So that's happy, too.
Right. Stuff to do. Probably.
