“Earth. I tread lightly upon you so that my step does not hurt. I sing to celebrate the air with which you nourish most creatures. I dance with abandon to invoke the fire within my soul that lights up the spirit of humanity and keeps it warm in your embrace. I rise with the night to welcome the moon on your behalf. Earth.
I adorn my hands with the pulp of your plants and dust my forehead with the sacred ash of the ground in homage to your divine grace because you allow me to. You give me refuge from the sun and allow me to live upon you. I took life so that those that were left could learn to appreciate your simple brilliance.
But while I am a part of this earth, I am not a part of this world. Everything about me contradicts every law of nature even though I am part of nature. Part of you. I protect this world even though I accept the day that Shiva dances your breath away. I appreciate your bounty although I am not attached to it; I am awed by your beauty even though it is a persistent illusion encasing us here. I use the gift of your breath but am not dependent on it.
I have peered into other worlds and found you not unique in your existence. But those worlds are not my mother. I was not birthed in their soil nor nourished by their water, their blood nor made in their image but yours-rivers run through my veins, water, once, through my tears, valleys and hills in the curves of my body, the strength of rock in my bones.
Therefore, allow me to lend my assistance in unleashing what is in my power to protect you against the ravages of a being whose lessons burn worlds away to ash. Let me make a choice to stand by you as you are cut by his ego. Let my blood be the balm that soothes your wounds and shows you…that someone fights for you. “
I looked from the candle flame and into the night as if I was speaking to something else now. To a Demon King still immaterial perhaps.
“The outcome does not matter.
Just that the battle is fought.”
