Simply deciding to be happier always works much better than I expect it to.
This works even when I'm pretty seriously depressed, at least for a time. I might fall back into that same funk, but it might also give me relief for long enough to actually work on some of the core issues.

And if I get sad again, I can decide to be happy, again.
This is how most of my fall and winter have gone. actually.
Luckily, I've got people who help me remember how nice it is to not feel terrible all the time.
