Yesterday Morning, I went for a
walk down the dirt road behind my parents' house and did a little jogging. I am not engineered for running, so it was nice to only have about five houses, three cars, two dogs, and some cows to witness this less-than-athletic feat.
Then, in the afternoon, we loaded up the canoe and kayak and went to a very quiet lake (we were the only ones there, save one dog, one loon, a bald eagle, a doe and her fawn and the assorted birds, bugs, fish, and frogs) to
paddle and swim. The water was cold, but clear and calm and I stayed in until I couldn't stand it anymore. If only I had my bike here, I could really be enjoying all sorts of human-powered locomotion.
It has been prety cool here during the day, and the house gets down-right cold at night. My parents tease me for wearing a sweater in august and asking for extra blankets for my bed, but it's necessary, I assure you.
I have decided that I really would be mostly content to live either in big cities or rural areas (if I was mostly self-sufficient and didn't have to drive about constantly). Just please, spare me the suburbs.
My dad and I are going canoeing again today, tomorrow we are going to see the grandma, and my sister and I drive back to minneapolis on Saturday. And then, next week, off on another adventure!
