I got a guidebook for Prague in the mail yesterday. Looking through it on the train tonight made this trip start to feel a little bit real. I have a packing list, and a few ideas of things I'd like to see. I have it on good authority that being vegetarian (much less vegan) there is going to be rough, but I think I'll manage with my willingness to drop the vegan part on other continents.

Captain Jean Luc Picard the cat gives good hugs. seriously. I was getting ready to go out today, and he jumped up on the bathroom counter and stood up on his hind legs to put his paws around my neck and lick my cheek. A few head butts and lots of purring later he climbed up onto my shoulder and hug out there for awhile. Ridiculous animal.

Went to a show at Intermedia arts last night. Two very different performance pieces by young artists. Both were really interesting, though the the second one was much more affecting. Nature, Peak Oil, living sustainably--but without scare tactics or denial, and lots of beauty woven in. Helped that the performer was gorgeous, probably. But it got me thinking about a farm, lots of trees, a big garden. Funny how I crave that sort of simple (though harder) life, but it seems so terrifying and foolish and impossible. Sometimes I almost wish for the (zombie) apocalypse. I think I'd do well.

Went back to watching my kids this week. The nanny they hired to replace me couldn't hack it so I'm filling in for five weeks. Which is a blessing, since I was getting poor and yet am going on a trip. They've been angels so far, and I find being around them to be a lot more enjoyable again after a break. I still have to figure out what to do with myself when I grow up. Which apparently needs to happen sometime around about...January. The idea of making me a kept woman has been tossed around. Manda decided she likes having me at home. :) My services are available for lease. I cook, I clean, I take care of kids and other needy creatures, and I'm good company. Reasonable hourly rate.
I am starting to feel pretty defeated about finding a decent job.
