i'm leaving for amsterdam/paris today. i can't get over how much i have grown since my last overseas trip. after all, i'm turning 17 next friday.
i keep thinking about emerson 's self-reliance, and how he says "the soul is no traveler; the wise man stays at home, and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into the foreign lands, he is at home still..."
so many people have traveled to these places, how my visit special or significant for me? i won't discover anything that i wouldn't have already discovered on my own staying in shaker heights.
bleh. well, at least it's a very art-filled trip with carvaggio, rembrandt, and others...
perhaps learning about their lives and their art will inspire me?
