Dare I say another music post?

Yes I did, and I intend on staying true to my word. Today's topic: who is the greatest guitar player of all time? Yes, indeed this question has been pondered by many an individual since the creation of the electric guitar. To fit into this category, I think that the player must be highly skilled, knowing of his craft, versatile in his playing, but also know when to be subtle; that's it in a nutshell. So, who do I think fits this bill? It's hard to say. My natural choice has to be Jimmy Page, for he can totally wail the jazz, blues, rock, etc. Though there are several that fall right behind him, as well as a few more steps. There's such a big list of awesome guitar players that I could name a bunch and still be either leaving someone out or not knowing that that person is out there. Here's the past-Jimmy list for me:
Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton
George Harrison
B.B. King
Buddy Guy
George Thorogood
Django Reinhardt
Wes Montgomery
John Scofield
George Benson
Eddie Van Halen
The Edge
John Fruscante
Vernon Reid
Dr. Know
Angus Young
Tommy Iommi
I'll say that there are a bunch of guitar players in the new "emo" bands that are awesome too, and more or less fit these standards but are not quite there yet since they often put themselves in a trap of what they're playing that doesn't go past the same guidelines. Here are a couple of the "emo" and related music bands that have them:
Finch
Thursday
Thrice
Coheed and Cambria
Hot Water Music
At-The-Drive-In
The Mars Volta
Unwritten Law
I'm sure I've completely misdiagnosed bands into this category, so don't post here saying that this band or that band is or isn't emo, because it's a stupid title that I've used for convenience's sake to be able to put a bunch of bands that would otherwise be in categories all over the place.
To follow up, here's a list of bands that don't really have good guitar players in my eyes. These are bands that may have at least okay guitarists, but I've put them there because the guitar on their records sucks in my eyes, no matter how much inherent skill level there is. So here that goes:
The Ramones
The Clash
The Sex Pistols
Blink-182
Green Day
Sum 41
other s**t for brains punk bands

That's all for now. Comments, comment page, hasta luego.
