As for nations, you are correct. I would have never even guessed that such a thing could exist. Nor would I have guessed that a "Wonderland" existed, either.

Oh, you are new, aren't you? Have you heard of the Queen of Hearts yet? She controls this place, and she and her minions watch us through the mirrors. You can break them, too, but they repair themselves within an hour or so.

I've found that to be the case with most people here. And while it's strange to you to think of an Earth with us, it is equally strange for us to think of a world without us. But as you said, this place will show you the existence of a great many things none of us had thought of.
