Question about the history of the words..

I'm just starting to learn Hungarian (totally charmed by it =))) but my question now is not about grammar or translation..
I'm eager to know - when and where have been "magyar" mentioned as the name of nation or its language - for the first time? whad did that word supposed to mean in the ancient time? Maybe there were other names for Magyar nation and Magyarorszag? How these names changed as the time went on?
if your information will be in english - it would be great, but if in hungarian - that would be difficuilt and useful for me to practice in translating, so... =)
