Survivor XV opinions and other useless stuff.

Well, I guess it is my time to rant about it, heh. After 2004's sort of drama-ridden tournaments, I thought SXV would be better in that department and it was, in a way. This time, I sponsored Wild Arms 3' Clive Winslet, who was an intellectual sniper and wore cowboy style clothes. I really like the character, so I figured that it wasn't a bad idea ( Read more... )

I don't think that you are really being fair to yourself (as well as several other people) in this post.

To begin with, I never felt like you were in the way of what I was writing in the second round with the attack on the supply depot. I was actually actively looking for another sponsor or two who wanted to come along. Otherwise, I would have just been writing by myself and involving only my character, and that's not as fun at all. I was thrilled that you were interested in some interaction and I enjoyed writing that, brief as it was. It's true that I had a plan in my head already, but that does not mean I was unwilling to adapt the plan to include other people. Getting to work in other people's plans with my own is a big part of fun with writing in Survivor for me. I wanted to split off because I was trying to go around and interact with several people that round and I didn't want a problem akin to "the giant snowball fight" that resulted from too many sponsors having around the same place.

On the whole, I agree with your issues with people writing in their small spheres and patting one another on the back. This is pretty much continuing even on now that the tournament is over. These people were only writing among their own number and only trading defense and heals with one another. I hope you don't feel like I was among the guilty parties with this sort of behavior; I tried to interact at least briefly with a good number of different sponsors (though the most common one was May) and I never really got bogged down in these nearly-plastic-wrapped storylines that were pretty much sealed off from the rest of the tournament.

I can certainly understand feeling like you are being somewhat ignored - I kinda have this feeling myself about my writing in round 4, which I felt was my best in the tournament, but all I hear about round four is "zomfg drive-by lol", as though I did nothing else that round. I try not to let this get to me; after all, it is kinda hard to read every other sponsor's writing during a given tournament (even moreso in that fourth round where we were split into two threads.) But it was somewhat frustrating.

(to be continued)
