Understanding Communism Really Fast

Jun 17, 2010 22:29

There are 3 ways to control people: violence, greed (possibly a future essay topic), and love/virtue.

Violence: you tell people - do what I want or I will hurt/imprison/kill you.
Greed: Do what I want and I will give you money or goods.
Love: Do what I want because it's the right thing to do.

Idealist Communists said: Without greed, there will be more love.
Anti-communists said: Without greed, there will be more violence.
Public Choice: You can't get rid of greed.
Mises and Hayek: Blah blah blah information, Blah blah blah opportunity costs.
Neoclassical economists said: What's wrong with greed?
Stalinist communists said: What's wrong with violence?
Deirdre McCloskey: Under capitalism, there will be more love.
