There are 3 ways to control people:
violence, greed (possibly a future essay topic), and love/virtue.
Violence: you tell people - do what I want or I will hurt/imprison/kill you.
Greed: Do what I want and I will give you money or goods.
Love: Do what I want because it's the right thing to do.
