Liberals - those who bleed with other people's blood

I loved this description when I heard it. It captures quickly everything that annoys libertarians about liberals. Liberals want to do good in the world, they just want other people to pay for it. They want to improve the lives of those groups they favor, even if it means hurting groups they do not. Conservatives have their own favored groups, but they don't pretend to want to be nice to everyone. Any money spent by the government must first be taxed, which causes a deadweight loss. Since it involves using force to take money from those who earned it, it is not as morally good as money voluntarily donated. Taxing and spending should not be counted as morally good for the person doing the taxing, but if it counts for anything, it should count as the person being taxed as doing good. Hilary Clinton is not Santa Claus!

For example, the minimum wage sounds like a good idea to help the working poor. It does not work out that way in practice. Very few people under the poverty line actually have jobs at the minimum wage. Usually they are either unemployed or working a few hours at a higher paying job. It winds up hurting them (through higher unemployment) and teenagers who don't have a strong enough resume to get hired at the higher wage. Theoretically business owners could as well, but it seems extremely unlikely given market structures and how capital markets work. Basically, you get unemployment with very little benefit to anyone.
