Hey LJ, been a while~

Anime Conji. you are one interesting piece of work. I attended this con in the hopes of hosting 1 panel. Kicking it back, and spending time with friends and loved ones. The latter was easily done. The former. FUCK THAT!

This con basically came at me and said "Hey Matt. You enjoy your free time right?" "Well of course I do Anime Conji :D" "Great, great!! *DICK PUNCH* GIMME DAT FREE TIME! *swindle* BWAHAHAHA" I shall now explain my weekend in this report. Apologies for long rants or stupid and not entertaining talks haha.

The instant of arrival was filled with sorting out panels, acquiring a badge, and spending time with Hector and friends cracking jokes in the con suite on day 0. Much hilarity ensued.

Highlights:
  • Marvel 3 joke translations for wolverine: BILL CLAW, BREAK THE GARAGE, FATAL BLOG!
  • "Oh man, Gash Bell game for PS2. it's so easy, it's like 1, 2, 3, Zakeruga" Water in the bathroom instantly starts running on cue. "OH SHIT!"
  • Telling stories about cons of attendees pasts. Much fun.
Day 1 then rolls around. I derp my way into pelipper and spend the most of my morning doing nothing. Kicking it with friends who were waiting in the reg lines, then went to a panel I was supposed to be on. Upon leaving that panel I spent some time at the last few minutes of Caistarrin's panel then helped Vincent and Austin with their masquerade panel. We then decided to sign up for masquerade. Ran into Julia and Caitlin in the dealers hall and chatted it up for a bit then I changed into Yang later.  Taco party. TACO PARTY. TACO PARTY. The taco party at Conji was a huge success and we had just roughly 60 tacos. More than @ ALA and it was a blast. The party for myself and a few others shifted over to the Last Comic Standing that Julia had entered so we went to support her. Most of the acts... were horrid. Jokes just went on too long, little diversity, too much about dicks, sex, rape, and trash talk. Not enough humor. Left early to go work on masq script and after that it was hanging with Julia and then going to bed.

Day 2. A day that will live, in INFAMY

Holy piss. In the immortal words of Man Faye when I met him on a subway car many years ago I relate this day to his statement "The first half of this booze I bought on the train was fucking terrible, but the second half was DELICIOUS!"  I started my day by meeting up with Vincent and co. to eat breakfast and discuss masq stuff and sign up. Upon doing sign up I had to help a friend check into his hotel room, THEN detour BACK to masq to fill out waivers and make sure everyone in the group gets there to do so. Killing a bit of time I began hunting down the equipment for the LAST MINUTE SFHigh Panel and balanced it with going to the Masquerade meeting.

Meeting ended, Panel began. The panel consisted of myself, Wes, Tadao, Jrzil, and Reuben Langdon. Reuben showed up, popped his head in for all of 5 seconds, told us "He'd be right there" then never came. :/ classy man~ After that went down I went to finally practice our masquerade skit with everyone while trying to finish in time to do a photo shoot with Jarrod who i brought his yun costume to wear so we could twin it up. He decided he didn't wanna do the shoot since he didn't have the gloves yet. That's fine and I honestly don't have a problem with someone not wanting to do a shoot because their cosplay isn't completed, but I had been busting my ass non stop all day to get time to do that shoot, to not have it. Followed by a nice ounce of possible trouble in which I had to go in hiding till the Masquerade check in.

Things simmered down and I got a text from Caitlin asking if we could help out a voice actor friend of theirs find a place to crash so I put him up in our room. Stephen Wiess, cool dude, very appreciative and respectful~ Walked with Julia, Caitlin, and Whitney to the masquerade line then headed back up to the green room. Masquerade definitely could have been handled better. Participants didn't have time to use the stage and get a rehearsal on it, the stage was slippery as all hell and we were really worried that our 2 slip ups could have cost us the show. Luckily we won best in show for performance. Have panel on how to do well in masquerade... Do well in masquerade... Winning!

After the masquerade everyone went off in different directions, some of us changed, I got out of my Yang shirt and wig, put on my pelipper wig and cap and hung out with Julia and Caistarrin in their room and just had a blast talking about lots of things. Soon after we decided to be socialites and get the fuck out of the room. Hung out with Chaz for a bit, then hit up the rum party. Julia dominated a quick game of Poker then we proceeded to try and buy people in the auction but quickly got out bid. Somehow fake gold defeats 7 AMERICAN DOLLARS! The night then led to Julia, Caitlin, Vincent and I heading back to my room and talking, falling half asleep then walking the girls to their room and then falling asleep in general.  Day over.

Day 3.
Long story short. I left early, had my round of good byes, talked to peeps about things, and then left for a wedding. Which I missed entirely. Got there just as the ceremony ended. :| While meeting people in the hall the cantor chimed in, "Oh I left San Diego this morning to at 10 minutes to 11 and got here at 12." We had left @ 11. WHAT THE HELL MAN?!!?!??!?! so dumb. But the reception was nice, the people at our table were really fun to chat with. One of the ladies was from Oahu and actually went to prom with Barak Obama, so everyone at the table was all giddy and interested to hear about what he was like as a kid. The woman kept saying "You remind me of Barry." apparently his nickname when he was 17. This is not the first time someone says I remind them of Barak Obama. An interesting observation which honestly is flattering. Who wouldn't wanna be thought of as a similar look-a-like to a cool president BD.

Finally came home. Watched our masq skit on ACP. and now I'm typing this LJ entry a few hours later.

Anime Conji. I look forward to coming back next year. And actually having one of those moments of "Hmmm... what should I do with ALL THIS FREE TIME???" The con did end on a good note and I was able to take care of a lot of things and have a good time overall. Can't wait for the next one, and definitely looking forward to Fanime :D
