Translator seethes
Dear authors,
You cannot even imagine, how terrible is to receive the permission, translate the story making one's best only for getting the first rewiew: "Oh, I've read this story in the other translation already". Then poor translator visites the link and finds out that a story is really already translated and the other translator has also received the same permission from the author.
Please understand me correctly: yes, it's quite typical for classic literature that one novel may have many translations. But each translator always knows about the previous ones and it's not a problem. But you are not classics and we are not professionals. Most fiction stories are translated only to give the possibility to read them for those who cannot read in original. An if the potential translator would have known that the story was already translated, it's most likely that one wouldn't waste time.
I'm not asking anybody to go and check on whether the person who asked you permission performed the translation or not. But you can just tell the others that it's not the first translation request for the story. It's not difficult to do, really? And it would save time and nerves for the translator, otherwise one's won't be able even to post the work, because it's the way of the Russian fandom, as is customary.
