Five thoughts after watching "On Leather Wings"

So, instead of sleeping or doing any one of a half dozen other things I desperately need to be doing right now (or starting any of the shows I've promised people I would watch in the coming months), I thought now was a good time to start Batman: The Animated Series.  I'M JUST IN A BATMAN MOOD, OKAY ( Read more... )

Hey! I'm perfectly fine with you watching "Batman: The Animated Series", as that's one of the superhero TV series...es I actually know. :P I myself am just now watching "Batman: Beyond", so I'm starting to get the references/jokes you made while watching that. Heh.

In other news, I am SO SORRY I haven't been in touch in forever! I did get your video message thing, and I've got a...really late...Christmas present that I then added some stuff onto to make it fancier (that I didn't _have_ ready when it was Christmas, so, I couldn't have added it then anyway) and it's now become a late _birthday_ present. I totally intended to send it last week or before, but last week I was SO DEAD, I mean, I had like no energy. I've been kinda bleh lately all the time, really. Like, I can't even get up enough _brain_ energy to do anything remotely complicated.

And that's the other reason I haven't sent your present yet, because I wanted to send a "quick" catch-up e-mail to you, but the amount of brain power it would take to correctly condense down everything I've been doing/not doing lately into something that actually IS quick is beyond me at the moment. Basically, I can think well enough to write, but not enough to edit. :P

Anyway, hope you enjoy Batman: TAS. As for the voice being weird...am I wrong or is it the _same_ voice actor who plays Old Bruce in Beyond? In that case, you HAVE heard that voice for Batman before. :)
At any rate, have fun voice-chasing in general with that show. I seem to remember it was a goldmine for that.

And now, a moment of silence for two other quality DC series, both cut down before their time: Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Both were good. Both got cancelled after the season that just finished.
(In GL's case, that was Season ONE. Although I can't say I'm super-surprised. Green Lantern being popular enough to even get a series STARTED where he's the star and not one of a group that also contains Batman is amazing enough, but it was also a CGI show, and those are more expensive to begin with. Still, a modern superhero cartoon that ISN'T SUPER DARK yet still has legit drama and character development is a rare thing, and we need more of it in the world.)

Sigh.

Hey, mate!

First of all, BELIEVE ME, I understand lack of brain energy. Today has been a particularly good example of the sort of Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day that leaves you even more drained than usual, so I'm pretty amazed I can even type right now. But I finished my last bit of school work for the semester this morning, and now it's just a question of figuring out how to earn lots of money very fast while also traveling and spending lots of money very fast. Oh, and taking a summer class. There's also that little wrinkle. (Speaking of traveling, I'm leaving for the padres' in a few days and will be at the FL address through most of May, then I'll be in and out throughout June before settling back down here in July. So...that's something to take into consideration re: sending me things.)

I have watched a few more episodes since posting this, but I didn't have the energy to blog about them at the time; hopefully I'll be able to get back to doing that soon.

You're right, Kevin Conroy IS Bruce in B:TAS and Beyond, a well as in Justice League and an awful lot of the animated movies. The man IS Batman, for all intents and purposes, and his is the voice I hear in my head when I'm reading Batman comics. And that's what's weirdest about it: It's the same actor, but this is the very first time he's played the role, and I'm used to the way he plays him MUCH later in his career, after he's had a decade or two to really BECOME Batman, if you see. Like, he's SO CLOSE to being the Batman I know that it makes the difference even weirder than it would otherwise be.

I was not a happy camper when I heard about Young Justice and GL, but I can't pretend that I was helping either one by watching... I have *almost* been able to keep up with the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which is an incredible show, by the way), but that has taken up every bit of the time I have left over for shows that are currently in production, after Community, Parks and Rec, and now Hannibal*. I have every intention of watching Young Justice this summer, though, probably as soon as I've finished the first season of Batman.

* THIS FLIPPING SHOW...! I had no intention of watching it AT ALL until I found out Bryan Fuller (the Pushing Daisies guy) was in charge, and then Hugh Dancy made me love his character before the first commercial break with an intensity that ten led me to listen to the first two Hannibal Lecter books in the space of four days when I should have been writing papers. I can't think of a single show since, like, Battlestar that has grabbed me this hard this quickly (and we will of course hold out hope that Hannibal doesn't follow much further in BSG's footsteps...)
