Five thoughts after watching "The Doctor's Wife"

1) Neil Gaiman should write all the episodes.  It's no surprise to anyone, least of all me, that I feel that way.  That said, I was truly steeling myself to be as disappointed in this episode as I have been in the rest of the series to date* - the reason I didn't watch it last night was that, after four hours in the kitchen preparing food for a pot ( Read more... )

Er... what on earth is this comment form? There are 9 ways to sign in, and since I'm already signed in, I don't quite understand what the deal is.

ANYWAY. I meant to comment on your reaction to "The Impossible Astronaut," but then lack of power and internet prevented me until yesterday, when I read Mark's review of [name of episode omitted just in case you haven't heard it yet] and thought perhaps I don't have my thoughts on this season quite in order yet to fully respond to your thoughts in an intelligent way. Also seeing others' reactions really makes me think I need to revisit season five and not just because of my aforementioned desire to watch the River episodes backwards-- or in order? Her comments in TIA/DotM really confuse me because my original impression was that they meet randomly, thus requiring the use of the books to figure out what experiences they have in common. And it doesn't seem like, given what we've seen of her, it would make sense for their meetings to be as straightforward as what's backwards for one is forwards for another. UGH MY HEAD.

ANYWAY. I think I shall try to call you today to see if I can't properly pull together my thoughts, but I am very glad that you liked "The Doctor's Wife," as I was sure if you liked any episode of this season so far, it would be this one. My preliminary thought on what's been happening so far is that there are some really great and intriguing concepts, but I'm not sure that they have executed them in the best way? And of course we're coming from different points of view in terms of this season's place in the entirety of the show, given your much more complete knowledge and love of Classic Who, where I've had dribblings and am more, for example, forgiving of River and her guns and the Doctor's strange acceptance of it (though... what?). Have I devolved into complete nonsense yet? :|

But yes. We do know from the SJA episode with Eleven that cross-racial regeneration is possible (I love Clyde so much for being so straightforward with that question. And also just in general.), and I'd have to re-watch this episode to remember what exactly was said re: transexual/gender regeneration. (Didn't Eleven have a worry he regenerated into a woman in "Eleventh Hour"? Or was that less a "hey this could happen" than "wth this shouldn't happen" kind of deal???)

I think you said something in CotBS about killing Rory multiple times, and of course they revisited that in this episode as well. I'm trying to find a comment Moffatt made about that.... and really do not search any images on the internet EVER, Robin. The keywords I'm using have absolutely nothing to do with the most recent episode, and yet all I'm getting are images from it. WHAT.

Okay, I had to just go through twitter and get the screen shot, because it was getting to be way too much of a hassle otherwise:

OH MOFFATT YOU TROLL.

P.S. You don't know how many times I wanted to tease something and then typed in parenthesis something like "but I don't want to spoil you on this" but of course THAT'S a spoiler because then you'd know there's a spoiler about a certain topic... BLAH. Only three episodes until we can dig into some of the stuff I want to talk about, and then a fourth when you can help me figure out my FEELINGS about this. Though Mark's review did kind of help to bring me down and feel a bit more analytical about the whole thing.

P.P.S. September is here! Only three weeks until awesometown!
