Follow up thought to last night's semi-coherent rambling

My two favourite parts of the HP musicals are undoubtedly the "Where have you been all my life?" moment with Ron and Harry and the bit where poor, recently-sacked Lupin "Alohamora"s open his flask and gives that little self-satisfied smile.  But right behind those two is the beginning of AVPS Act II, where Lupin apologizes to Snape.  Part of the charm of Brian Holden's Lupin is that he is so NOT canon (and it is, in fact, most of the character's better qualities that they chucked in the bin, much the same way they wrote all of the characters), but he's still completely recognizable.  This moment where, just for a second, these two characters put aside their grudges and come to an understanding, is something I wanted to see throughout the books and of course never got.  I don't doubt that it might have happened somewhere off-page (since EVERYTHING Lupin does after PoA is off-page, thanks to the stories being told from Harry's POV*), but...well, StarKid managed to scratch one of my years-long itches.

And, you know, I think I actually like it MORE coming from these versions of the characters, since canon-Lupin has rather less to apologize for.  Again, we don't have an exact account of all of his actions, but I feel pretty confident in saying he never called Snape a butt-trumpet in the time frame of PoA, and that, while Snape _does_ taunt Sirius about not being able to leave Grimmauld Place, I don't remember him so obviously taunting Lupin.  He was, in fact, (grudgingly) helping him in the books.  So, to see the quite immature versions of the characters having a very mature moment of sincerity and semi-reconciliation just...UGH, I love it.

PS: Chaotica!!, I will absolutely be getting back to you soon, first in reply to your comment on the previous entry and then a proper letter/v-letter/I don't know maybe both.  I would have done so already, except that the hermana was here as soon as I got back, and then my cousin came to visit, and I haven't had _any_ spare time.  But, as soon as my cousin has left (which should be within the week...I'm rather hazy on the details, here), I'll be free to give you a fuller account of what I've been up to.

* Which, again, is a really well-executed literary choice, and I love exploring how different narrators affect a story, but it's super frustrating when you've got such a huge cast of fascinating and clearly well-developed characters and you can only see what they're up to when they're doing it right there in front of the main character.  Third person limited may be one of the most impressive POVs, and I may love it, but I still quite hate it.
