I don't care what else happens in this movie, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is worth every cent of the $4.99 I paid for it just to hear Lee Pace with a London accent. I honestly didn't think I could find this man any more attractive than I already did, but good god gravy...!
As far as the actual movie is concerned, it was worth probably half the price just to see the look of absolute joy on Miss Pettigrew's face when she eats the cucumber (why exactly this is a Moment of Cinematic Awesome has a lot to do with context, so you'll have to take my word for it). It remains to be seen whether or not I can put my stamp of approval on the movie as a whole, because I see a lot of Devil Wears Prada and reverse-Hunger Games issues**, but I have already gotten more of a return on my investment than I got from Definitely, Maybe.
(In other IPLF*** tyro entertainment critic news, I watched Me and My Dick last night, and...I'm still working out if I have any reason to have been as uncomfortable with certain characters as I was. I think I have a valid case, but it's entirely possible I'm being oversensitive. It's also possible that I'm only second guessing my initial discomfort because of who we're dealing with, and that is not okay. I may have more on this later as the story develops.)
* Kudos to anyone who followed me there...by which I mean, kudos to anyone who understood the somewhat obscure allusion. If anyone else actually made the mental leap I did, I must admit, I'm a bit worried.
** That is, it's got some Hunger Games-esque themes, and I suspect it's going to chicken out from actually dealing with them, since it seems to be a light comedy. And that's going to irritate me, particularly given how incredible this cast is (dude, Aberforth/Wentworth is a lingerie designer...!) and how much I want to love it.
