Because what the world needs - what it really, truly needs - is
Goliath National Bank opening an advertising firm*.
We did all get the bit about Barney being "an adulterous thief, a hypocrite, a virgin-violator"****, right? And we all understand that this sort of thing is only humourous on HIMYM because it only ever happens in his mind, and there's some serious karmic retribution any time he does pull anything off, yes? And I don't have to explain why this commercial is inherently misogynistic when HIMYM isn't, I trust?
* For those of you who don't watch How I Met Your Mother, GNB is the company where Barney Stinson, New York's dorkiest Lothario, works (to use the term as loosely as possi(mpa)ble**. One of Barney's many catchphrases is "Suit up!", which roughly translates to "Let's go pick up some chicks, man!" The implication here is that wearing a suit (which he always does) ensures any man will be able to "score"***. Also working at GNB are two more delightful fratboys who, upon first meeting recently engaged Marshall, begin assaulting him with a particularly unimaginative game of Would You Rather...? Obviously, GNB did not produce the ad linked above, as they are a fictional company. But, as is noted in the comments following the video, you could believe it if they had. In fact, if it HAD been something Barney put together and the other characters had laughed and dismissed it as just another incident in a long string of assinine things he has done, it would have been funny. But this commercial is for real, and the guys (a term I use not because I'm being insensitive to gendered nouns, but because you KNOW it was a bunch of men) who are responsible for it didn't get slapped when it was over.
** Sorry, it's really not cool to drop in-jokes in the middle of an explanation of another in-joke from the same thing, is it? (Barney: "Some poeple do what is possible, but I go past the possible."/Interviewer (incidently, this is also Barney, in case we were unsure of how much of an egotistical arse he is): "You mean the impossible?"/Barney: "No, I do what is possible and impossible combined: the possimpable.")
*** Another, perhaps even more troubling variation is "Birthday-suit up!" from the episode
"The Naked Man." There is also "Flightsuit up!" from "Slutty Pumpkin," wherein Barney dresses as Mavrick from Top Gun.
**** For those of you who didn't read behind the cut last night, I'm trying a new thing where I pull out my Shakespearean Insults reference manual every time I feel the urge to call someone a douche.
