I bought an ASUS laptop about a year ago after poking around online for recommendations. I'd never heard of them but they were supposed to be pretty good. Since my advisor bought me a macbook pro for work I don't need it anymore and I'm selling it to a friend, but the AC adapter died. Long story short, it took all of four days after I shipped it in to get a new one and now my friend's birthday present is only slightly delayed. This is all in contrast to my legendary experiences with dell, wherein my motherboard fried within a year and a half and they subsequently forgot to include a hard drive when they shipped my repaired laptop back, meaning that I didn't have a laptop for my first three months in china.
I'm not a big mac guy, so I figured I would put in my recommendation for anyone buying a PC out there. I've gotten a good 5-6 hours of battery life out of my asus on a regular basis. My macbook pro only seems to get a couple of hours at most.
