In spite of my huge backlog of reading I just picked up three books off of amazon:
Extremely Loud and incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
Brave Dragons: A Chinese Basketball Team, an American Coach, and Two Cultures Clashing - Jim Yardley
Logavina Street: Life and Death in a Sarajevo Neighborhood - Barbara Demick
I get a lot of books from the library here, but the first is way too popular to check out and the last couple are brand new books that I wouldn't mind owning. Jonathan Safran Foer's first book, Everything is Illuminated, was one of the best books I read during my reading spree in Beijing. Barbara Demick wrote a great book about North Korea called Nothing to Envy. I feel entirely comfortable with throwing down ten bucks on her next book, which is about the war in Yugoslavia in the early 90s. I remember my dad had an employee when we lived in Italy named Bojan who loved video games and had stories about surviving on cat food during the siege before getting out.
Right now I'm reading a book called city of thieves by david benioff about the siege of leningrad.
