I opened my curtains early this morning to find a mysterious package. Now I've got my own little mystery on my hands! I have taken photos, but can't find the camera leads, so until Himself wakes up in the morning and can tell me where he's stuck them, you'll have to be content with my descriptions.
It's a circular box, about 8 inches across, heavy card or light wood. Inside is a "bath bomb", a gemstone chip bracelet (looks like Citrine or Carnelian) and an unidentified gemstone wrapped up together in pink tissue paper, and a little organza pouch holding dried grass, flowers and berries (I think).
The outside was addressed strangely, thus:
*MY NAME*
Flat A
*ROAD NEXT TO MINE*
Leeds
Hmmm. It had been delivered by hand, at some point in the early hours of the morning, because we found it at 7:45am, tucked behind the motorbike. So why the half-assed attempt to address it? My deductions so far run thusly:
* The person knows my name, first and last. However, most people who know me really well call me Magpie, so that pretty much rules out close friends unless they were being deliberately over-formal to throw me off the scent.
* The person responsible knew how to physically find my house, but not the postal address. They didn't even take the time to find the correct road, let alone a house number! Therefore, either they have visited me before or they have watched me walk in there!
* The box was left between midnight and 7.30am - so the person is either very local, or made a special nocturnal trip!
* I'm pretty sure all the items inside it can be bought in the shopping centre I work in. Not sure what to infer from that.
Is it a friend trying to mess with my head? An anonymous admirer? Someone I've briefly met once? Someone who's stalked me from work? Is it just a cute little present, or does it mean something? Should I maybe not use the bath-bomb in case it's poisoned? But then again, maybe there's a hidden message inside it that I'll never find unless I do use it. Are the dried plants and stones the components of some sort of spell? Or a curse? Or a message hidden in the Victorian language of flowers? Maybe it was aliens?
I'm thinking too deeply about this,aren't I?
Thank you, whoever it was, you've kept my brain exercised for a bit! It's cute and mysterious :D But there are two things I should tell you - firstly, if you're a secret admirer, my common-law hubby is the jealous type, and is already plotting to destroy you. Secondly, the bath bomb smells delightful, but I have very sensitive skin so I shan't be using it, sorry. Awesome box though! I think I might decoupage it and keep lipsticks in it....
