thought some of you guys might be interested in the PM I got from AFF forums.
I sent a PM as instructed in the topic, basically said again, look guys theres no need for all this bitching at the people posting, I dont understand all the computing stuff but surely it cant be that bad etc etc, and got this reply, actually not as bad as I thought it might be.
I am queen of diplomacy.
I want to thank you for not bitching at us for doing what we're doing to keep the site from crashing. And yes, we have received hateful, very spiteful PMs telling us to go to hell for what we're doing to their site. We ask them do they want to crash the site or have it finally stable after about five years of being up? They come back with silence. I think they don't realize that what we're doing is stabilizing the site itself.
I'm the same way, very senstive towards others and yet when people are being MEMEMEMEMEMEME and not thinking about what was about to happen to the site if we allowed it to contine we would had a crash back in 2007. And Manta told me since I used to own the site that we were only mere hours away from a crash back in late 2007, she and the other techs have pushed it back for a long time doing what they are doing right now and to keep the site up, changes must happen.
People seriously hate change, they like things to remain the same. If they don't get what they are demanding, they will bitch and complain about it to whoever is making the changes and yet if they don't get their way, they leave and make it known in a huge way so everyone knows why they are leaving and yet in the end they will return and accept the changes.
We would love to leave it the way it is but we will be talking about bringing back the most popular sub cats one day in the future after all the stuff we have in mind for the site itself is done and I hope people will understand that we are concerning ourselves with keeping the site up and not recreating it from a crashed state. I will be the voice for bringing back Snape/OFC, I happen to like that catagory myself, when everything is settled so there is a strong chance that that subcat may return it will not be right away, maybe months from now as the site is in a process of becoming stronger first.
So don't worry that the Snape/OFC catagory is going to be gone forever, right now having it up is not feasible, but after the site is redone, that catagory will possibly be returned.
I remembered the fuss people made with the change to different catagories for HP and LOTR and the other fandoms. They bitched and bitched about it and some left in a mean huff. But guess what? They ended up returning weeks later when they realized that we're the only archive site that allowed people to post unbetaed stories and they do not have to go through a moderator to get their stories posted. So people will get used to this as well. Those people who leave will return and get used to having Snape/OFC stories in the het female/male section for the time being.
Working on the backbone of the site is very hard and time consuming, we're trying to get the site as stable as possible to where we would have no more crashes.
Beth
So Snape/OFC may be back one day, but it will be a long wait.
