(no subject)
eep!
the second semester has started.
its a LOT harder than the first. in may i have a 10 page paper due (in dutch) and I have to give a ten minute presentation (in dutch). I also have a weekly vocabulary test consisting of 150 words or so (although only 30 are actually used on the test. studying 150 for thirty questions? ridiculous. and i have to answer 80% correctly to pass... whaaat?). the classes are conducted in dutch. two of my three teachers speak clear, slow dutch. the third uses easy words as well, but she talks a lot faster. hmph.
in other news, i just drove home! its the first time i've driven in... five months. annnd stephens car is a stick shift. i am excited! its the longest (distance and time-wise) i have ever driven a stick. we did it at ten thirty at night, so there weren't so many people on the road/ bicycles popping out of nowhere. I think I did pretty decent. I seriously stalled at one light (and was a little panicky) but i managed to get into first gear and not stall for all the other ones. It probably helps that there are less lights and more roundabouts.
mmm... i did well on my exams overall. I had eight total, had to retake two, and passed seven. The retake for the eighth is in march (boooooo). In order to pass the first year i have to have 40 'points' (I only vaguely understand the technical details of the dutch education system). After these exams I have 25 points.
I've started buying pictures frames again (oh no). six for 75 cents each!
and... done.
