A/N: Riku has said he spent Christmas alone. I don't want that cutie to spend it alone. So I make him spend it with someone in my fics. 83 Merry Christmas to you guys here! ♥
Christmas - everyone seemed to love the holiday that was all about kindness and warmth. Couples spent the day behind closed doors, giving each others presents and having good meals, chatting the day away. They would curl up on the couch, embracing, watching television...
Riku would've loved that as well. Sadly, his day was made up from other things. He would wake up, smoke few cigarettes while drinking his morning coffee, dress up and head outside for a walk. Since his favorite shops were closed during the holidays, he spent some time doing window shopping and maybe he would end up buying some of the stuff after Christmas. Then he would head back home, make something to eat and watch television, alone.
His parents had called him to let him know that he could come to their place and spend the holidays there, but Riku had kindly turned the offer down. He had visited his family a week ago and given them the presents they could open on the right date and that was it.
Afternoon had almost passed and it was turning darker outside as the dusk fell. Riku had spent his time by sipping away the coffee he had cooked earlier, smoking a cigarette once in a while. He was about to light up yet another cigarette, when his cellphone informed him of a call. Abandoning the unlit cigarette, the vocalist made his way to living room to answer.
“Hello?”
“Merry Christmas!” Riku smiled - Iori had picked up a habit of calling him every Christmas.
“Merry Christmas to you too,” Riku replied, still smiling. ”Why are you calling me? I thought you were spending this Christmas with Jun-”
“And happy New Year too, Riku!”
“As you can hear, I am actually spending it with Jun. He's overly hyper again and I don't know what overdose he has had,” Iori replied. ”But even though I spend holidays with Jun, it doesn't mean that I wouldn't have any time to call you. It's a tradition nowadays.”
“Thanks for the awesome present, Riku!” Jun howled. His voice was heard so clearly that he was probably next to Iori.
“Tell Jun he's welcome and that it was no trouble at all,” Riku laughed.
“He opened up your present right after he came here and hasn't been able to let go of it since. He even drags it to toilet with him,” Iori commented.
“Poor plushie,” Riku said back and made Iori laugh. “Well, I think you should hang up and spend some time with Jun, ” he said quickly after Iori's laughter faded.
“Have you opened up your presents yet?” Iori asked.
“Um, no. I thought I could open them in the evening-”
“Open them! Open them now!”
“As you can hear, Jun wants you to do it right now,” Iori said, laughing a bit again.
“Okay, will do. I have them right here on the table,” Riku replied and smiled as he grabbed the first present. ”This seems to be from you, Iori,” he said as he started to rip away the gift paper.
“I hope you like it.”
“We'll see, we'll see... Oh my... Iori, you didn't,” Riku whispered as he ripped away the rest of the paper.
“You do like Kuroyume, right?”
“Yes, yes I do, but... you didn't need to get this. It's really, really expensive-”
“Is he going to open up my present at all?” Jun whined in the background.
Riku laughed and shook his head. “Tell Jun that I'm going to open it up right now,” he said and put aside the Kuroyume box. He grabbed another present, which was covered by pink gift paper. “Okay, I'm opening it now.”
“Jun seems to be very happy now,” Iori laughed.
“I bet he is. Aww, thank you Jun, it's very cute and fuzzy,” Riku thanked and took a closer look at the polar bear plushie. ”I like it.”
“Yay! He liked it, he liked it! Did you hear that Iori? He liked it!”
“Yes I did, yes I did. Now calm down, you'll have a heart attack if you keep that going on,” Iori said. ”Anyways, I hope you have good holidays. I'll have to hang up now, Jun wants to show me something. Bye!”
“Bye and thank you,” Riku replied and put the phone on the table as the line went dead. He still had one present to open. It was from Matoi and it could wait until the evening. He stood up and walked back to kitchen, lighting up the cigarette he had been forced to abandon because of the phone call. He lit it up and took a long drag, leaning against the counter. He got to smoke the cigarette in peace for about ten seconds, since people seemed to have the time to call him now. This time he left the cigarette in ash tray, went to get the phone from living room and came back.
“Hello?”
“Merry Christmas, Riku-chan.”
Riku nearly burned himself with the cigarette he was holding and choked a bit. “M-merry Christmas, Kisaki-san.”
“Are you okay?”
“Y-yeah, I was just... a bit surprised, that's all.” Riku could hear soft laughter from the other end.
“Have you enjoyed the holidays so far?” Kisaki questioned.
“Yes, I have,” Riku replied shortly. He was a bit taken aback by this call, but was extremely happy about it as well.
“Good. Are you spending holidays with your family?”
“No.”
“Oh, why's that?”
“I think they can manage without me,” Riku replied and smiled a bit. ”I haven't spent the holidays with them for a while.”
“Ah, if that's the case... Are you spending time with your lover then?”
Riku blinked. “Lover? Oh, no, no! I don't have one,” he explained quickly.
“Don't tell me that you're alone at home.”
“Well... fine, I won't. You said that, not me.”
“You're supposed to spent the Christmas with someone. You do know that, right?”
“Yes, I do... But... How about you?”
“Me?” Kisaki laughed a bit. ”No, I'm not with anyone currently. I'm at the office now.”
“At the office? But you're not supposed to work during holidays, I'm sure you're aware of that.”
“Yes. I thought that I could catch up some work that I should've done a long time ago.”
“But... You need to rest,” Riku said, sounding a bit worried.
“Still worrying about me? That's sweet.”
“I just don't want you to get hospitalized again,” Riku mumbled and could hear Kisaki laugh at his comment. ”It's not funny.”
“It's not, I know. I'm just amused by the fact that you still worry about me like you were my mother. But actually I had something else to say to you as well.”
“Oh? What?”
“I've almost finished my work here and I would like to relax somewhere. Seems like you're not busy, so why not go out and have a drink, hm?”
“You know that my alcohol tolerance is not that good,” Riku reminded.
“Order a non-alcoholic drink then. I know this place where you can have those too.”
“Well-”
“Are you ready by seven?”
“I-”
“Good, I'll come to pick you up.”
Riku didn't even have the time to reply as the line went dead. He stared at the phone for a while in disbelief before placing it on the kitchen counter. He stood still for a minute or two as he gathered his thoughts. A smile appeared on his face when he rushed to hallway to get his coat and shoes. It was just a drink, but Riku had wanted to have that drink for a long time by now.
