I don't know how many of you know, but Mobile was the first to celebrate Mardi Gras. Contrary to popular belief, it was not New Orleans. That said, there is evidently a distinct difference between Mobile's Mardi Gras and the one in New Orleans. The one in New Orleans is more like a Girls Gone Wild drunk party, or at least that's what their rivals in Mobile like to claim. In turn, the one here in Mobile is a family based, serious piece of business.
When I say serious, I mean SERIOUS! Mardi Gras is not taken lightly here at all. So much so, that the kids even get time off from school. Yep, they get a Mardi Gras vacation.
Heather was amused when one of her new school chums asked what Atlantans did for Mardi Gras. The girl was completely taken by surprise that there was no time off of school, much less any celebration to speak of.
So once again, as so often happens here, I cannot tell a short story. *sighs* Just call me an early 40's Rose Nylund. :P
Well here, they have parades that begin in January and the parades last all the way through to Fat Tuesday and such. Today is parade #3 (I believe) and the kids' school is participating in this one. We really wanted to go, but it's raining and sleeting. The parade will go on, nothing cancels it. It's just that Clay and Heather are not well and don't need to be out in the cold damp air. Darn. :(
I'm very disappointed. I missed the one on the 5th (the first parade) and the one last night, and now this one. Will I never make a parade? I know I will, but I had so looked forward to this one.
Ah well, I'll make one eventually. I just wanted to show some school spirit today. It's the only one our high school will be in I think.
Love to all! ♥
