I was given the letter D.
Dick Grayson: DCU- Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. Dick Grayson is my favorite character in the DCU and pretty much all comics. He was the first comic book character I related to. I started watching Batman: The Animated Series as a kid, and I loved Robin. He was a teenager, but he was hero, even if he didn’t have any super powers. He’d gone through a tough life, but he still remained upbeat and had a sense of humor. He’s grown up in the comics to a strong leading character, and I still enjoy reading Nightwing comics.
Dr. Alex Delaware: Jonathan Kellerman novels- The leading character in my favorite book series. Most of Jonathan Kellerman’s books feature the mysteries that Dr. Delaware helps his L.A. cop friend, Milo, solve crimes. He’s a child psychologist, which is how he got involved in the first case they worked on together, and since then, he’s become a consultant for the L.A.P.D. He’s smart without being arrogant, and he’s a guy that tries to do the right thing, even if it’s not always the safe thing to do. I’m totally hooked on these books. I love the fact that I never figure out the answer before Dr. Delaware does. (I tend to ruin books for myself by trying to figure out the answer first).
Data: Star Trek: The Next Generation- Star Trek, my first fandom. I was one of the few Star Trek: The Next Generation fans that didn’t have Data as my favorite character (at least that I went to school with). I liked Data though. They were able to do the innocent, still learning about humanity persona without going the same route they had in the original series with Spock. And how cool is an android for a character? I think I really fell in love with Data in the final movie, Nemesis. He was more human than most of the other characters in that movie. And he was always good for a comic interlude :)
Dog: I Am Legend- The unnamed dog in I Am Legend, the novel (I know this one is kind of stretching the D name thing). In the novel, the dog has no name, and he’s a stray dog that Robert Neville happens to see one day and realizes it hasn’t been transformed by the plague that has turned everyone, except Neville, into vampires. It’s a really touching part of the book as Neville tirelessly tries to get the dog to trust him day after day. The dog gives Neville hope and fills his need for companionship, even if it’s only to watch the dog from a distance. This is a great and powerful part of the book, and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read it yet, but I’ve read this book several times and it still gets me, even if I know what’s going to happen.
Dory: Finding Nemo- The absolutely lovable, forgetful fish from Finding Nemo. I love Dory! She’s sweet, nice, and tries her hardest to be helpful, even if she can’t remember what she’s trying to do. I can’t help but laugh at her every time I watch that movie.
