Can I Get a Motmot?

Yesterday Happy and I went to the National Zoo. I'm sure Happy will maintain that she only went because she was indulging her little sister, but I think her biological clock was ticking and she wanted to see baby antelopes NOW.

We spent three hours at the Zoo and failed to see more than the Asia Trail, the birds, and the small mammals before we needed to find some sustenance that did not involve paying $20 for a soggy burger and fries. All in all it is a pretty good Zoo and I will have to go back in order to see lions and tigers and bears (oh my!).

The major drawbacks were that most of the animals refused to cooperate with my pictures (the red panda moved on purpose I swear!), the place was crawling with children, and for some reason the small mammal house was probably 60% Golden Tamarins. Who really needs to see that many Golden Tamarins in one place?

I think that the optimal arrangement for Zoos is probably something like ten year old boys and trading cards:
"I'll trade you two Golden Tamarins for a Ring Tailed Lemur."
"Throw in an elephant shrew and you have a deal!"
