Here are ten things that have been proposed to the CCP in order to stimulate China's economy. While restoring traditional characters might help to drive spending on education, I think it is more likely that it will simply result in an even larger population of illiterate Chinese.
My favorite is definitely number 10: "'The Spirit of Lei Feng' Applied for UNESCO Non-material Cultural Heritage." Lei Feng is remembered as the (probably fictional) communist comrade who refused to buy himself a new pair of socks when he needed them, and instead gave away all of his money. He even refused to take a new pair of socks as a gift from someone he had helped. I hardly see how that will stimulate demand.
I suppose it is comforting to know that the US is not the only place where people have ridiculous ideas about the economy.
