Preparing for the worst

Since I had a decent week financially at work (finally) and since we've already had a few 30 degree nights here in New England and it's not even November yet, (I think it may have even snowed the other morning but I'm pretending that it didn't) I jumped the gun and went on Zappos and bought a pair of winter boots. I'm going to be doing a lot of walking outside this winter, what with my 15 minute walk to the train to get anywhere, and I'm not going to go through another winter with plastic bags on my feet. (yes, I wore plastic bags on my feet in between my socks and my crappy non-waterproof boots all last winter... like I was 5)

I looked at La Canadiennes but they were all well beyond my price point and to be honest, rather blah. I picked a pair of Khombu boots that are both waterproof and warm and, in my opinion, not HORRIBLY ug(g)ly. They received great reviews and everyone gushes about how warm/dry they are. They will be mine in 4-5 business days. Truth be told I don't think they are the most beautiful things I've ever seen, but when a girl turns 31, has a seriously limited budget, and wants to keep her feet warm and dry during the harsh New England winter, a girl's gotta make some compromises.

Here they are in all their glory: http://www.zappos.com/khombu-solar-black

Luckily my awesome sister left me with her downy winter coat, so at least I can replace my crappy old falling apart one. It's a nice big warm one with a hood. Now I just need to locate my fur lined leather gloves and wool scarf and find a decent hat and I'll be all set for braving the great outdoors. I'm gonna leave a pair of sneakers in my studio for painting in, along with a crappy old sweater to keep me warm when the heat inevitably breaks. (state funded art college... yay)
