Okay, I'm now officially caught up. Of course, caught up and understanding are two very different concepts, especially when it comes to Kishimoto's rather insane mind.
First off--for all you Naruto fans on the f'list, is this the final story arc? I've been completely out of it for a while (case in point, I was twenty chapters behind), but killing
Kakashi,
Hinata, and
Shizune, not to mention all the earlier deaths (
Jiraya, Orochimaru, Itachi) kind of seems to indicate that he's winding up the series. Not necessarily with the defeat/triumph of Pein, because we do still have to deal with Mr. I'm Too Emo For My Shirt and all, but that'll require a chapter or three, in the grand Kishimoto scale of things.
Secondly . . .
Secondly, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON, MR. KISHIMOTO??!?! Okay, I realize that you cannot possibly sully your precious manga with the mortal taint of romance--but really? Really? Also--did this plot line come out of nowhere, or is it just me? I mean, yes, I accept that we've been battling with Akatsuki's obsession with the jinchuuriki for years, but come on. This My-Middle-Name-Is-Revenge-Masquerading-As-Justice crap? Been there, bought the t-shirt, watched the shit get kicked out of the guy's ass. Pein, get off your friggin soap box and just kill him, okay? Have you not learned that the villains who solliloquize are always the ones who end up dead? Admittedly, you were probably not as obsessed with the Alphabet Mysteries as I was when I was seven, seeing as how you were in the middle of a hell of a lot of blood/gore/angst. But still. The murder of your entire hillbilly town is no excuse for a lack of Alphabet Mysteries!
At any rate, where was I? Oh yes, I was complaining about plot lines. It's just, first with Madara and now with Pein, it seems like we have villains coming out of our ears with their pathetic sob stories and not a bit of resolution going on before we get the next one! What happened to the go old days, when once villain would get defeated, we've get a brief period of peace and/or Kakashi-mask-spying, and then the next one would go and stab a few ANBU or kidnap someone or something. And before you get shirty, Kishimoto, introducing said pathetic sob story after the villain has
blown up basically all of Konoha is hardly the way to make him appear human. It makes you appear like a shitty plot creator. I understand that, at least when it comes to Naruto, there are some things that I, as a reader, must take with a grain of salt. One of those is the actual death of characters--that's why you aren't getting bloody hearts in chocolate boxes right now in the mail, 'k?--another is plot resolution within a timely manner, and the one that is currently pissing me off the most is that your villains always have sob stories.
For once, just once, I want a villain in Naruto who just woke up one morning and wanted to be evil. I mean it. I am tired of crying when I watch Haku die. I don't care that Madara's father beat him and his brother was a big bully and his mom hated his guts and his clan wanted to stab him to death. I really don't need Orochimaru's disturbing childhood memories of being all lovey-dovey with the Yondaime, Tsunade, and Jiraya. PEIN DOES NOT NEED SYMPATHY. I am serious. I am all for making your villains complex, but there is nothing complex about creating a guy who is deluding himself into calling revenge an attempt for peace. It's called insanity, Kishimoto-chan, and I suspect you also suffer from it.
Of course, as this entire post is being written through a haze of tears because I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HE KILLED
HINATA, perhaps what I'm ranting about is slightly biased in the direction of Fuck You Kishimoto.
Shmuck.
