And once again, higher brain functioning is only occuring after 10:30

The Grandparents are up from VA for Christmas, and have already taken over the house. We went out to Max's for dinner, and Mom and I split a truly exorbitant amount of oysters. YUM FOR RAW SEAFOOD. Is it sad that I giggled a bit upon realizing that we were cheerfully having shellfish on Hannukah, despite the fact that I'm not Jewish, let alone ( Read more... )

It's not CDisplay! I swear! My brother agrees! If it's still a problem, run a MacAfee or Windows Defender scan. Some pop-ups are just there to annoy you, they don't actually have a virus (at least, that's what happens on my computer...) and if you ignore them nothing bad happens. So keep reading!

Also, I TOLD YOU SOOOO! WOOT FABLES!!! And shipping Snow/Bigby? Who ELSE would you ship them with?? Boy Blue = badass, alcoholic or not.

Okay, maybe it's not CDisplay, but I definitely have a virus (a Vundo) and it is killing me. I can't open a thing, and my internet moves like it's the Ice Age. AAARGH.

So, needless to say, Fables? Not being read.

Time to call the Geek Squad? Or maybe it's just your computer is really...really...old.

OH good (well not good, exactly) I was worried you would get ahead of me...and wouldn't THAT be terrible.

My computer was a Christmas gift in 8th grade. It is not that old. And Kevin has promised to fix it once he gets back from Albany. Of course, he also promised to fix it by the end of Christmas day, and see how that turned out.

Oh yeah, Alanna. Watch me weep.

OK, for computers, 4-5 years is pretty old. My brother's computer, which he got freshman year (of college) busted when he was in New Zealand (the screen didn't work). He did get it fixed...eventually. And both their computers are much slower than they used to be, and can't handle many programs running at once. So :P

Ooh, the maturity, it burns. And maybe my computer is getting on in age, but she was willing to last me until at least August . . . UNTIL THE VUNDO STRUCK. I don't really mind the slowness, you know. It's the whole not-being-able-to-access-my-files bit that's killing me.

For the record (and yes I am an ff.n stalker wandered over to the dark side) I'm currently typing on a computer that once ran on Windows 95.

There's no reason for it to be old and cantankerous if you upkeep properly. And for the viruses, I recommend a program called Spyware Doctor. It's going to be hellish to download with your computer running that slow and I'm not sure if you have to pay for it, but it catches loads of viruses and malware that McAfee doesn't.

Though, if you'd like a random tech support tip and aren't currently on a Mac, try Alt+Ctrl+Deleting. Go to the Processess tab and End Process anything that shouldn't be running. The svchosts, anything that starts with an Mc, and explorer are all good. I could help more if I knew what your task manager prompt looks like, but really the Techie boyfriend is your best bet.

Yay for random stalker geeks!

The reason it's cantankerous is because, out of approximately 33 GB of hard drive, 1.5 GB of it is actually free.

The TCB downloaded about fourteen programs, one of which (called VundoFix) appears willing to solve my problems, provided I sacrifice my firstborn in front of an apple tree on the autumn equinox.

I tried running Task Manager, to middling success. Most of the general Trojan stuff got zapped by VirusScan, but the Vundo is being disturbingly tenacious. The TCB has promised to lay his hands on my computer when he gets a chance . . . but I really, really need my computer fixed by yesterday, y'know?

(Random stalker geeks should not be underestimated. I would know . . . kind of being one myself :P)

That would be a good reason to be cantakerous. XD My computer (one of them. Geek.) had Sims 2, Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout 3 all installed and working at the same time at one point. And those are like the Sumo Wrestlers of the gaming world. It started complaning when I tried to load old Dos games onto it. *Dos*. Games from the Stoneage. XD
