A householdy meme
A householdy meme, appropriate because the magnetic_pole household is currently celebrating the acquisition of a huge, comfy couch! Folks, I have been sitting virtuously upright on a futon for twenty-odd years now, and I can't tell you how excited I am about lounging around on a plush couch with more than enough room for the two of us. Plus there's a giant ottoman for putting the feet up. Life is good.
1. What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now.
A bar of Dial, I think. Whatever was cheapest while I was shopping.
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
Unfortunately, no. I walk about half a mile to get to the store, and so in terms of summer fruit I've been all about the light berries: raspberries, blueberries, strawberries.
3. Is there anything moldy in your refrigerator?
I hope not!
4. Are there any dirty dishes in your sink?
Sadly, yes. The better half insists on hand-washing certain items, and I'm less good about those than I am about putting things in the dishwasher.
5. What would you change about your living room?
More storage! We moved into a new apartment this spring, and while it's lovely and even a bit larger than the last in terms of square footage, it has only a pantry in the kitchen and a walk-in closet in the bedroom. There's nowhere to put coats, wrapping paper, and the twenty-odd boxes of stuff (photo albums, gifts, place mats, etc.) we still have sitting in the corner.
6. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
Dirty, awaiting more dishy friends so I can run the darn thing.
7. Do you have a can of mushrooms in your pantry?
Hm. I should in case of mushroom emergencies. I have two packages of fresh mushroom in the fridge (baby bella and white) and a container of dried shiitakes in the pantry.
8. White or wheat bread?
Wheat.
9. What is on top of your refrigerator?
A microwave (our old microwave; the new place came with one over the stove already). A buffet server because the better half really, really enjoys throwing parties.
10. What colour is your sofa?
SOFA!!!! We have a brand-new queen-sized sleeper sofa in a nice, textured coffee-with-milk chocolately brown that is just so comfortable. I've been sitting awkwardly upright on a futon since my college days, and I am so, so happy about this purchase.
11. What colour or design is on your shower curtain?
White, with some green leaves.
12. How many plants are in your home?
Four: two orchids that were housewarming gifts, a tiny little thing that was a gift from a student last spring, and a small plant the last owner left us. (No green thumbs in this house, but we try.)
13. How many candles are in your home?
Hm. Two or three?
14. Is your bed made right now?
Yes.
15. Electric or standard can opener?
Standard.
16. Comet or Soft Scrub?
At the moment, soft scrub.

As organized as I can make it.

We really should have a flash light for emergencies. Hm. *mental note*

No junk drawers. All the drawers are filled, and the junk is still in twenty-odd boxes in the corner of the living room.
20. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home.
Glass. We've had these great mason jars for years. They came with salsa in them originally.
21. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
I do! Peach.
22. If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
No garage. One bedroom apartment.
23. Curtains or blinds?
Neither, actually.
24. How many pillows do you sleep with?
One.
25. Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
No need--it's fairly light in this part of the city.

None.
27. How often do you vacuum?
Not often enough.

In the hallway in front of our door, you mean? No.

Nothing. My goal is to ignore the oven until October or so. Right everything's a stir fry or going in the toaster oven.

Quite a bit. Our winter clothes, a suitcase, and half a dozen travel bags.

Vacuuming? It's the one I put off the most.

We don't really have self-consciously "retro" items--when we need new things, we tend to buy new or trade or borrow from others. The oldest items in the house right now are all from 1994, when the better half and I finished college--a boom box complete with tape deck, a rice cooker, a toaster oven, a desk lamp, a futon (hopefully a former student will take this, now that we have the couch), and a cheap glass-top dining table and chairs that have lasted so well over the years I'm reluctant to give them up. We've also got a clock-radio and a pair of jogging shorts from 1990 and a hairbrush from 1977 (!).
36. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
Nope. I have my desk in a corner of the bedroom.
37. If you have a yard, who mows it?
No yard.
38. Is there anything on your kitchen floor right now?
Apart from the trash can and recycling bin? No.

Two: one above the sink in the bathroom, and one, full-length, in the bedroom. This second mirror was also left by the last owner. It has the magical power of making me look thinner than I am (I'm a slightly overweight person from a very overweight family; issues there, I know).

*sigh* Yes. Not much, but just in case.
41. What colour are your walls?
The living-dining room is a very pale green with some sage-green accent walls (which we painted on moving in), the kitchen and bathroom are the original beige, and the bedroom is a very trendy grey (left over from the last owner).

None.

Yes.
44. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
No.
45. What does your home smell like right now?
Not much, I hope?

Odd as this sounds, I don't really like scents.

Just relish.

Me and the better half; the better half, the better half (these two are from posters from performances she gave a few years ago); me, the better half, and our two nephews; and me and the better half no fewer than ten times each in a really spectacular composite photo an artist friend made for us. (He shot several dozen photos of us standing in one of our favorite cityscapes and knitted them together into a single composition. It's one of my favorite things in the house.)
