I didn't comment on your fic when it was first posted on Beholder, I wanted to wait for the author reveal. Because: Holy shit, you wrote the same pairing as I did, putting such a completely different spin on the characters and their relationship - and you made me believe it. And how odd is it that a pairing that's never appeared before suddenly popped up twice? (On a side note: Isn't it interesting how sometimes a pairing that had never before made an appearance is represented with several stories all of a sudden? Like this year Severus/Aberforth

To me, this story exemplifies why the Beholder is (was) such an invaluable contribution to the HP fandom - and not only becuase is it a beautifully crafted piece of prose. On the meta level, it showcases how differently we interpret supporting characters whose role within canon appears to be fixed. We are used to seeing a plethora of different interpretations for major characters and pairings, and it's great to see minor characters receive the same treatment.
Exactly! My first thought when I saw "By Theft or Force" was complete amazement--How could there possibly be another Arabella/Dolores fic in this fest?--but my second was smug delight--Of course they're both popular around here--in fact, it's amazing we haven't seen this pairing before. Thank you, Beholder

I skipped this story while the exchange was running because I am not a cat-lady at all and both characters leave me uninterested as well, but now my curiosity won - and what a great read it is: such an unusual composition to start with.... I am always delighted by out-of-the-ordinary formats. And you form their characters into personalities I would have never thought possible - well, that is what "Beholder" has always been so great at. And the end is such a "start" of something new :-), lovely! *applause*
Well, in that case, thanks very much for giving this fic a chance! I appreciate it. And thanks for the kind words on the format. I actually started with a much more conventional story but realized my notes seemed more interesting than the fic itself, so I set out a way to dramatize the notes, so to speak. And I felt very pleased with the results until I realized just how close the format is to a text conversation. Just goes to show there's nothing new under the sun, I suppose.... M.
Oh, wow, I'm usually so wrong! Well, it's a fab story, and here's my pairing: Minerva/anyone except Sybill. (Or gen is fine, too.) Optional prompt: curriculum vitae.
