Recently immigration seems to be the latest debate in this country. Quite frankly, I don't believe there needs to be a debate at all. All this talk about amnesty and tighter security and all the other wonderful talking points are not real or viable solutions

First of all, after 9/11, the US has become increasingly strict on border security and immigration issues. Airport security becomes tighter, bags are checked more often, the Mexico-US border is being more "securitized" (or whatever they want to call it), and even regular people are looking at Muslims with a "OMG IT'S A TERRORIST! RUN!" perspective. So the fact that the Bush administration is cracking down on immigration is, in a way, a safety issue. I'm not saying that all illegal immigrants are terrorists or a threat to the "American people" (whatever that is). Just that, it's giving the US more security in a time where people are wanting it most.
Besides, the rest of the world seem to already have illegal immigration laws in stone--they already have illegal immigrants as a crime. If other nations are implementing the technique and don't seem to have problems with it, why shouldn't the US? 'Course, with the US's stubborness at every international policy there is, including the metric system, I wouldn't be suprised if they decide not to go with this one either.
And anyways, this deal isn't just on immigration for people like you are I who are legal immigrants (well, at least I am). These are people who don't seem to be able to abide by the internatinal system and try to get across without the right to do so. Maybe they don't bother with it because it's too much work. Or too much English. Or too much money. I don't know. How would I? I'm not illegal. But it's a rule and it's there and you gotta follow it to work in this society.
I know that there's a language issue on the table now in the US. About making English the "official national language." Honestly, I think it's stupid. America began as a multi-cultural country and is known best for it's diversity of ethinicity, races, relgion, etc etc. Why try to make the population speak a common language now when people are going to learn English (at least a little bit if they are in the country--like "Where's the bathroom?") anyways? The only difference it would make would be the possibility of spanish and other language translations disspearing from road signs, bathroom signs, airport signs, and other various mass communication devices. Anyways, I just brought this one up because I thought it was somewhat related.
As for the immigration stuff, I really can't side with either just because I f*cking hate being considered a immigrant and being treated as one because all those stupid arrogant "international security" (BS) people treat you like shit. That's why I sympathize with the illegals, but then again, they are illegal. So idk. I just pointed out the arguments previously stated for the sake of argument.
btw, Happy Graduation~ :D
