Nano Premortem
So a couple people (yes, i'm talking about you sushimustwrite, banyangirl1832, and isle_of_apples) are trying really hard to get me to do nano this year. They may not own up to it, but I can see their machinations.
So I was thinking this morning, what would need for me to give in to these people. I'm already going to be doing a fair amount of writing in November. I have to finish my qualifier by Nov 15th, according my my proff. in yesterday's meeting. I also am probably supposed to be editing my short story. Of course, I might not edit it, since I'm just an audit. Get the feedback, and put off editing to when I have more time. Which is *not* november. I've also been asked to collaborate on some research work, which will start in november.
So with the decision of the short story out of the way (pending discussion with the instructor), there's still a few items that would need to be addressed.
Those are the main ones. I thought about doing something more directed at someone, but I'm not gonna do that here. Let's just say one of them is in a position to do a quid-pro-quo if she decides she really wants me to join her in this experiment.

- The most important is that I have to have results by halloween. I have to have started on this qual, or there's no way i'd have the time.
- I need to have a better direction on my story. Right now I have some characters and structure and a bit on stting, but nothing on plot. I was talking it over with kim last night, and the problem with my short story and 2nd novel (or one of them anyway) is that it wasn't *about* anything. I always sucked at picking that kind of shit up in school, so I never really thought about putting it into my story.
- I need different support. While I'm sure those 3 would be happy to poke and prod, there's some fundamental differences to how i operate. One is that I can't write shit under pressure, especially if i need to have it mean something. So no word warring. 2nd is that none of my write-friends read/write the only genre i can work within. So that needs to be fixed. One possibility is to try and talk this new girl I met into doing it with me. We had a good time the other day, despite the epic fail. Apparently she's debating whether or not to go for it.
