holiday hockey exchange letter
Hello, Hockey Holiday Exchange Person!
I want to say thank you in advance. I find fic exchanges to be a fun experience and the writing part to be the most fun. I hope it ends up being that way for you too. I am easy to please, and I am sure that I will love whatever you have matched me on and choose to write below. Please don’t stress, I want this to be enjoyable for us all.
Some general likes and dislikes before I get to specific requests.
Likes: good characterization, sex, banter, physicality and touching and hands, teams as found families, angst, makeouts, road trips, AUs (specifically things like HDM fusion/daemons, spies, soulbonds/soulmates, and the ever classic coffeeshop au or a rule 63/cis sex swap; I've actually yet to find an AU actually that I don't like, and sometimes AUs are easy for people to write!), that classic trope of fake dating, friends to lovers, and even the you bother me so fucking much and I don’t know why but no wait damn I like you.
Dislikes: rape, sexual assault, mentions of Patrick Kane, non con, misogyny, infidelity. That about covers it.

Request One: Nicklas Backstrom/Alexander Ovechkin
If there are actual things such as hockey soulmates, these two are probably up there as prime example. They’ve been together so long now! Nicky was drafted to come play center for Ovi, Ovi was so excited and wanted him to come over asap, Ovi was shy as hell to announce picking him as the draft! They’ve played together for years now. They’re the leading duo in the league. They have a tremendous amount of respect for one another (which culminates in interviews where Ovi will staunchly say that Nicky is the leader of the team and so important, and then Nicky will always get a very annoyed look on his face at a media member that tries to say anything bad about Ovi). There’s just so much here and I’d love anything about them.
What I’d really love is either an arranged marriage fic or royalty au fic for them. It’s all perfectly there. Ovi can be the younger prince or younger son. Nicky not specifically in line for anything or in the family as such that there’s pressure. Or, if you wanna stick with traditional hockey more, then a soulmate au where idk the Capitals drafted Nicky specifically for Ovi and it’s basically an arranged marriage type deal; congrats, here’s your center for you to have forever, now go lead the franchise.
Or I would even take single dad Nicky fic.
Or you know a fic dealing with Nicky’s frustrations of being injured this summer and his hip. Or hey secret relationship that the team is like are they a thing? But they fool everyone. Like I said, whatever strikes your fancy. Go for it.
Request Two: T.J. Oshie/John Carlson
Listen, I’m not entirely sure how this became a thing, except it is now a thing.
There’s anything and everything you could do with these two I’d be fine with. Any of the aus I listed up above? Go for it.
Other things for just regular fic: they played together at the Olympics. When Oshie got traded, he had to give up 74 and go with 77 because Carly currently has it for the Caps (which Carly gave up 74 for the Olympics); Carly apparently texted him and asked/offered once if Oshie wanted it, and Oshie declined so Carly never brought it up again. Carly was one of the first to reach out to talk since the trade, and apparently has been involved in showing Oshie around/getting him situated here. Both are American frat boy-esque. What’s the best is that while Carly is way bigger, he’s the younger of the two.
They’re also hilarious in practice, often trying to score after drills on Holtby, so anything there either would be great. And “flirty” in practice. You don’t have to work in the rest of the team, obviously, but if you wanted to, I wouldn’t complain.
Any of the AUs mentioned would go for them too if you need a jump start or something. Or simple welcome to the team hello, hi, oh no, I really like you.
Request Three: Brandon Saad/Andrew Shaw
THE SHIP THAT WAS UNTIL THE TRADE OF THIS SUMMER.
But the ship I won’t let go of.
These two are just a lot! They’ve been friends for a while now. They played down in Rockville together. They were road roomies. Brandon specifically said he loved being roomies with Andy, while the rest of the team is like eh Andy can be so loud. Shawzy gave Brandon his own nickname! Shawzy used to bite Brandon in practices. Like. I just love them.
Give me anything. Sad you were traded but we’re making it work fic. Still on the team fic. AU it up. IDK Brandon changes into a dog after the trade and Shawzy takes care of him. Shawzy is traded to Columbus after this season because he’s worth too much for Chicago to keep now over other players and oh look my almost maybe could have been bf is suddenly here now. Maybe home isn’t a place or your team, but a person. Whatever, go for it!
Request Four: Tom Wilson/Tyler Seguin
Listen, I understand, but hear me out.
These two come from the Whalers together, missing by like a few months I think. They’re both Toronto boys. They know of each other. One of them is like the bad Whaler child and the other is the good Whaler child; harsh, segs, but fair, jk.
Anyway, they were both in Toronto this summer. Did the ping pong tournament together, where they sort of hung out. Were at that music summer thing there. And then BioSteel camp.
Plus, you can’t tell me the image of six foot four Tom moving smaller/skinnier Tyler around isn’t a turn on.
I’m go for anything here for them.
