My audition was quick, and they seemed to like me. I made a point to look on their website and tried to remember a few names. I shook hands with the folks and made them aware that I knew one of them was the costume designer. That mildly impressed them. I gave my head shot and resume, and I then I did a powerful period-piece monologue about 1920s jazz musicians.
Levee got to be Levee! And he don't need nobody messin with him about the white man, cuz you don't know nothing bout me!...
I am shaking a little as I write this, because it was goosepimply. I was nervous, but they nodded their heads as I performed, which was encouraging. One gentleman asked if I could do a Spanish accent. I obliged in a somewhat Mexican dialect asking something like, "Like, do you want an accent like this?" Laughter. I switched to a sharper, more consonantal Puerto Rican style: "Or are you looking for something like this?" More laughter. "OK, now you're just showing off!" one lady said. I bowed, thanked them, and left.
I celebrated just having the guts to do the audition by having some Chinese food at the nearby Mariano's deli section. Tasty. I felt kinda confident, so since I had more head shots, I gave one to a customer service guy so I can audition to play piano at some of their locations. (They are rigorous, but they have a few locations that have live music.) They were very nice.
A nice afternoon. I went to a temple to meditate for a few hours, and the day was done. :)
