♘ CHARACTER INFORMATION
[ name ] Fai D Flourite
[ fandom ] Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
[ canon point ] After end of the series; after meeting Hanato Kobato in Kobato. Anime
[ age ] unknown, but looks like he could be in his mid to late twenties
[ personality ] Fai is generally speaking a cheerful character who loves to show kindness to others and take care of them. He shows that behavior especially towards Shaolan and Sakura, whom he loves like they were his own children or younger siblings and would give everything, even his own life, to protect them. Over the duration of their travel he grows very close to Sakura, whom he understands so well because both of them have to keep some things a secret from others in order to protect them and because they wish to avoid making them suffer because of their actions.
Fai is furthermore very nice to strangers and talks to them like they had known each other for years very quickly. He shows that attitude especially towards Kurogane, whom he immediately started to call nicknames. He happens to be very fond of these, creating new ones over and over, but it’s in fact a way of distancing himself from Kurogane, which failed since Fai had too much fun being with Kurogane like this. Eventually when Fai becomes a vampire though and starts calling him Kurogane the distance between them widens even further.
Over the time they spend together Kurogane recognizes that Fai’s outward behavior is nothing but a façade and Fai is a very lonely person in reality. Fai is additionally someone who takes the blame for everything that happens himself, believing it’s his fault that his brother died and that Sakura has been stabbed, when all of this was merely part of Fei Wong Reed’s plot to have his wish fulfilled.
Fai doesn’t care what happens to his own life as long as those he loves are safe and sound, but forgets that should anything happen to him, they wouldn’t be able to live happily as well. This attitude causes Kurogane to get angry at him more often than not, which shows how much the latter actually cares for him.
As Fai is freed from the pressure of his past he returns to his joking, constantly smiling persona and it becomes clear that he’s very nosy, since he likes to spy on Sakura and Shaolan, and loves to play pranks on everyone as well.
[ history ] Fai D Flourite, then known as “Yuui”, was born as the Prince of the northern Country of Valeria, which is always covered in snow, along with his identical twin brother Fai, both of them having strong magical powers. As twins were believed to cause great misery the two of them were separated after their parents’ deaths and while Fai was locked inside a tower, Yuui was kept at its foot, where both of them were unable to use their magic. The years passed until Fei Wong Reed came to both of them and offered to rescue one of them, while the other was to die. This decision was what changed Yuui’s name forever. Both of the twins voted for the other one to be released, but Fei Wong Reed altered Yuui’s memory to make him believe he voted for himself and therefore killed his brother. Fei Wong then set two curses upon him, one to kill a person who gained more magical powers than he himself has, the other to be activated should someone other than him kill Ashura-Ou of Ceres, which was removed from his memory as well. Fei Wong Reed uses the opportunity to make the hurting Yuui into his agent, telling him to travel with the “Princess of the Desert” Sakura and others, which will enable him to bring Fai back to life.
Filled with grief and hating himself he met said Ashura-Ou, who came to retrieve him from Valeria and bring him to Ceres. When he asked for Yuui’s name Yuui introduced himself as “Fai”, still clinging onto his dead brother’s body, in order to live the life Fai would have had had he lived until he would be able to revive his beloved brother, which became Yuui’s one true wish and his only reason to live. Using one of Sakura-hime’s feathers of memory , who bear huge magical power, to create a girl named Chii, who stayed by him to keep his brother’s body from rotting, he decided to let Fai “sleep” inside a water basin with the help of Ashura-Ou and cut his own hair, to have it stay by Fai’s side. Ashura-Ou then added a Flourite, which is the sacred gem of Ceres, and decided for it to become Yuui’s surname. (From now on Yuui will be referred to by his chosen name Fai.) To protect Fai from having his first curse activated, Ashura-Ou sealed it with a tattoo, which looked like a phoenix, on his back. Studying magic under Ashura-Ou became the most powerful magician of Ceres and was therefore awarded the title of “D”. The people of Ceres looked up to the young magician, but told him to smile more, as this is something making people feel better, just like the healing magic Fai finds himself unable to perform. For the sake of those around him Fai’s personality began to change from gloomy to cheerful and constantly smiling and joking, which pleases Ashura-Ou, who wanted him to be happy.
The years, though no one knows how many, go by until a grown up Fai departs from Ceres to meet the people he wishes to travel with at the Witch of Dimension’s shop. This woman, who calls herself Yuuko Ichihara, is commonly known for making contracts with people, fulfilling their wishes for receiving a suiting payment. Fai’s pronounced wish is to never go back to Ceres, the world where he came from. As all of the three male protagonists’, the others being Shaolan and Kurogane, are too huge to fulfill them separately, the three of them decide to travel together from that point on, which causes Fai to pay the tattoo Ashura-Ou gave to him as a price. They pass several dimensions and Fai finds himself growing more and more attached to all of his companions, especially Sakura, whom he treats very much like a daughter and teaches her various things like cooking and similar things, taking his pleasure in seeing her grow to be a cheerful and gentle person. Kurogane, whom he also is very fond of, seems to hate his cheerful, ever-smiling attitude, while Fai seems to love calling Kurogane various nicknames to annoy him, which greatly amuses the blonde magician. In order to protect the others from his own curses and not let them get too close to him, Fai lies to them all the time. Stating that the tattoo was the source of his magic instead of the seal it really was, he claims to be unable to use magic, though he occasionally uses it by whistling, a different form of magic than he’s used to, while in turn saying that he is unable to whistle.
While Kurogane seems to see through Fai’s façade right from the beginning, he doesn’t say much about it, so the five of them (including Mokona, a small creature with the ability to travel dimensions) live a pretty quiet life until they arrive in the world of Tokyo, where it’s revealed that the Shaolan, who has accompanied them up to this point, is a mere clone, without a soul. The original Shaolan arrives in that place, having freed himself from his prison at Fei Wong Reed’s side, but is unable to keep the Clone from ripping one of his blue eyes, which are the source of his magical powers. Fai almost dies from the shock but is saved through feeding him the blood of Kamui, who is a vampire, and Kurogane, who thereby becomes his only food source. This event changes Fai greatly as he begs Kurogane to let him die, which the other refuses, while he would have done anything to continue living to be able to bring his brother back before, which shows how important the others have become to him. Fai thinks that the Clone, now possessing half of Fai’s magic, would be too much of a threat to his friends, as this eye’s magic increases with usage, as the one remaining with Fai decreases.
The group continues to travel after that and end up in a world called Infinity, where they participate in a tournament to receive the price money and use it to have another wish granted by Yuuko. Fai starts to behave differently from before after leaving Tokyo as he separates himself from Kurogane, calling him by his full name instead of nicknames, and Shaolan, treating only Sakura, whom he feels strongly connected to, differently and oaths to protect her as she is “his only princess”, in order to protect his precious friends from himself. But once they win the tournament a passage opens up connecting Ceres and Infinity, sending one of Sakura’s feathers back to her, which makes her have more magic than Fai and thereby activating his first curse, which makes him stab the princess, whose body is thereby separated from her body, the latter being sent to Ceres. After a rather long talk with Yuuko, the remaining four of the group decide to try and rescue Sakura by going to where her body is, which means going back to Ceres, where Ashura-Ou, now awake from the sleep Fai put him in before going on his journey, awaits them. To achieve this, they pay the money they earned by winning the tournament and have Fai use his magic in addition to Mokona’s, to make sure they meet the right destination.
As they get there Ashura-Ou shows Fai’s friends various visions of Fai’s past, none of them showing the complete truth, which are meant to make them turn away from the blonde magician. A long fight follows during which Fai fights Kurogane, believing that the latter has turned against him, seeing only his one true wish of reviving his beloved brother. During this fight Ashura-Ou also shows Fai various memories, one of them being the reason why he sealed Ashura-Ou in the first place before leaving Ceres: Ashura-Ou killing his own citizens for decades. Ashura-Ou’s wish was to be killed by Fai, which Fai was and still is unable to do. This is the reason why Kurogane kills Ashura-Ou for Fai’s sake, to free him from this burden. As Ashura-Ou dies Fai finally learns the truth about his brother’s death: The original Fai’s wish to free him. He thereafter apologizes for not letting his brother sleep peacefully. But as the group wants to leave the second curse is activated and starts to seal Ceres, not letting either of them leave. Fai manages to free Sakura’s body as well as Shaolan and Mokona by using his magic, but fails to do the same for himself and Kurogane as his magic is the source of the curse’s power. Kurogane then cuts off his own left arm, in which Fai previously sealed Kurogane’s sword, making it act as a replacement for the two of them and enabling them to leave Ceres.
They arrive in Kurogane’s home country Nihon after that, where Fai punches Kurogane for acting reckless for his sake once more, but starts to act much more cheerful, smile genuinely and call him by his various nicknames once more. As Fuuma, whom they met in Tokyo already, appears in Nihon Fai trades his remaining magic for a cybernetic arm for Kurogane, which makes his blue eye turn golden and also makes him live from Kurogane’s blood only, since the vampire he has become is the only thing left to keep him alive with his magic gone. As the Clone appears once more it is revealed that the Sakura accompanying them to this point was a clone just as the other Shaolan, as this Sakura’s soul is killed by Clone Shaolan accidentally. Furthermore Fai’s shown to be the one responsible for sending them to Nihon after Ceres in a conversation with Tomoyo-hime, the princess Kurogane serves as a ninja. The remaining comrades swear to bring Sakura back by any costs, both the original one and the clone, and therefore travel to a Clow Country, the place where Sakura came from, frozen in time.
In Clow Country the same day repeats itself over and over again, but Fai notices, due to him being very sensible to blood as a vampire, that Kurogane’s artificial arm is causing him a lot of pain and punches him for that once more. He tells him that it’s important to let him know about it, since restraining oneself from expressing one’s true feelings causes pain for others, which he knows because he made the same mistake in the past. After watching several scenes of Sakura and Shaolan’s past in the ruins of Clow, Shaolan tells Fai that his wish of saving Sakura from the curse Fei Wong Reed cast upon her was what caused Fai to be born as a twin in the first place, which means that his brother’s death could have been avoided by not having him be born in the first place. Fai is shocked at this, but is not in the least angry at Shaolan for doing what he did, since the three of them, Fai, Shaolan and Kurogane, had basically the same wish: Saving a person they loved from death. Therefore Fai and Kurogane continue to stay at Shaolan’s side.
As they manage to finally begin their battle the two of them fight off Fei Wong’s minions, while Shaolan challenges his clone, whom he is able to defeat in the end, which makes Fai’s left eye come back to him and restore both his magic and both of his blue eyes, which also frees him from Kamui’s vampire blood. After a long battle, which also includes the death of the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko, Kurogane manages to kill Fei Wong, sending all of them, together with the original Sakura back to Clow Country. This is where Fai, now without a reason to ever return to Ceres, decides to go with Shaolan, Kurogane and Mokona on a new journey through the dimensions to bring both Clone Sakura and Clone Shaolan back. Fai, who has been quite lonely throughout his life, now seems to have found the place where he belongs and does not have to pretend to be someone he is not or weak a mask, but can be his own cheerful self from now on.
[ appearance ]
http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=magicwhistle Fai is a young man with bright blue eyes and pale blond hair, which has recently grown quite long. While choosing clothes he prefers warm clothes because he is used to wearing them since Ceres is a cold country and pale colors, especially white and blue. He is almost never to be seen sad in public but is instead smiling constantly and acts very politely towards others.
[ abilities ] Fai is a magician and capable of many different kinds of magic, though he himself states that he is unable to remember and use healing magic, but is very good at all kinds of magic used for fighting. He is also fairly good at cooking and drawing, which he suspects is because the movements necessary to perform these are similar to those needed in his magic or potion brewing.

[ first person ]
[Fai looks at the looking glass curiously. It was such a pity indeed that he never has been good with devices like this. Better than Kurogane, but still no good. Apperantly it was working with magic, but he couldn’t be sure. He just hoped it would work.]
Uhm, can someone hear me?
My name is Fai D Flourite, I have just arrived in this world. It seems to be a nice place to live in alright.
Wonderland, was it?
[He smiles at the device, appearing far too calm for the circumstances he’s in, but this is not the first time he’s in another world, so it’s okay.]
Could anyone tell me if they have seen someone called Kurogane? He’s really tall and has black hair.
[Fai moves to indicate the other’s height with his hand.]
Or someone called Shaolan-kun? He’s a brownhaired boy about this tall.
[He indicates Shaolan’s height.]
Or a small white cuuuuute creature calling herself Mokona?
[He indicates a small ball with his hands.]
I’d be reaaaaaally really happy if someone could help me!
This has happened before but it’s not nice to be separated from those you are travelling with, you know?~
Thank you a lot beforehand!~
[ third person ] When Fai opened his eyes he was aware that he was no longer in the world he had been in before. But it didn’t upset him because that was what it should be like. The four of them were no longer meant to stay in one place for longer than a couple of days, just as long as they needed to stay there. As long as they needed to find the pieces of memories they were searching for. The memory that belonged to the real Sakura and the real Shaolan, Shaolan’s parents. It was what they had decided to do, to go together, and to eventually go back to Clow Country when their mission was accomplished.
But something was wrong with the world Fai was in now. He was alone. Kurogane, Shaolan and Mokona were not with him. So they had been separated once more.
Fai got up, not really upset yet, though thinking that it was really unusual. This has not happened since long ago and he hoped that it would not take him as long as it had then to find each other again. Since he hardly had any choice he began to walk around, looking for someone in the forest he had arrived in. Maybe someone had seen Kurogane or heard which wasn’t that unlikely either. And if not … it would not be the first time that Fai would be able to run across the ninja by what seemed to be chance. It wasn’t of course. It was just that he wanted to find the other one. That was everything.
