NEWTs are over! Thank the gods; I thought I was going to just fall over in the middle of the Potions practical. That's the only one I'm fair certain I didn't pass. The others were easier than I had expected! Especially Care of Magical Creatures. That was fair simple. Who wouldn't know the dietary habits of Murtlaps ( Read more... )

I'm sure you passed all your NEWTs, Daine.

I must admit that the dietary habits of Murtlaps is not really a subject that I'm well-read on.

Thanks! But I doubt it, with the way I did the Potions exam. At least that's only one, though.

Oh. Well, mayhaps it's just me?

Perhaps you won't get an Outstanding, but Exceeds Expectations is also an excellent grade for most people.

I'd say it's anyone with an interest in Care of Magical Creatures... a subject which I didn't particularly cherish.

I...don't even think it was that high. But I know most of the others will be Outstanding or Exceeds Expectations, surprisingly! I knew most of the information.

You don't like magical creatures?

I can't see you making anything less than Exceeds Expectations on anything. Not with your level of intelligence and preparation.

It's not that I... dislike them so much. They rather dislike me I think. Plus a lot of them are quite big... and dangerous.

Well, thank you. [She's embarrassed now, and doesn't know what to say!]

I doubt they dislike you. All creatures prefer people, that's true, but I can't say that they've ever disliked someone who's treated them with respect.

And none of them are that dangerous, really. Just...you have to be fair careful.

You're welcome.

Not dangerous? There were an average of 1000 deaths annually as the result of dragon attacks before they instituted the restrictions.

And... I had a hinkypunk chase me once in third year. It was a bit traumatizing.

Well, I don't think they're that dangerous, just...you need to be fair cautious. And not stupid.

[I'm sorry, she's laughing.] That sounds a bit like me with Potions, actually.

I think the safest place for me to be in relation to a dragon is on the clear other side of the country. Or possibly in a different country.

[He knows he sounds completely ridiculous] It was just.. chasing me, waving its little lantern at me. And of course nobody thought of maybe trying to stop the thing. It was funnier to just have it continue chasing me.

I can read humans uncannily. Animals not so much.

Well, dragons can be ornery. I'll give you that.

That's fair rude! The nerve of some people, not thinking that mayhaps they could stop something like that...

Oh I'm fairly sure they thought of it, just chose not to.

Why not? Wouldn't anyone want to help?

[He debates how much he wants to tell her about his horrible experiences at Hogwarts as a student.]

Well... perhaps if Tho- err, Professor Durandal - we were friends in school - were there, then maybe he would have helped, but he was in Gryffindor and I was in Ravenclaw. We had that class with the Slytherins.

Most of the members of my house were very entertained by watching it chase me....

Slytherins are horrible, sometimes. But your own classmates...that's horrible.

I would've helped you.

I wasn't expecting help from any of them.

I know. That's because you're a good person.

I [Ink blots. She's embarrassed.] -- thanks. But anyone who's decent should have helped.
