My Life Is Frustrating

The epic battle of Sue vs. Computer is currently at a standstill. Sue has made a lot of ground, but Computer isn't giving up so easily. After removing unneeded stuff, defragmenting, running four different anti-virus programs, restoring my anti-virus software that seemed to have been disabled, restoring my firewall, and spending $30 on registry-cleaning software, I think I've narrowed down the problem to either a pending hardware failure or a conflict between a legitimate program that runs at start-up and the operating system. It's pretty happy with my running LJ and email right now, but it doesn't like me to play music or video files, and it hates Facebook with a passion. I haven't tried Word yet, but I expect that will be okay, too, which is a good thing because I need to write.

Yesterday was an exercise in frustration, because in addition to trying to figure out what my computer was doing, I had a doctor appointment. The appointment went well, but she was running 1-1/2 hours late, and I ended up being gone from my house for four hours. If I didn't love her so much, I'd switch doctors.

My daughter missed the bus on purpose this morning, which did nothing to improve my mood. I'm not a morning person on a good day, but last night I was up far too late messing with the computer, and then I didn't sleep well after that. And, sadly, a nap isn't happening for me today. *big pitiful sigh*

My little baby turns twelve on Saturday, and I'm still scrambling to make arrangements for the various gatherings. It's complicated having a Halloween birthday, because the birthday dinner gets preempted by Trick or Treating. It turns into the Never-ending Birthday Extravaganza. Plus on Friday, my son's class is having a Halloween party and I'm bringing in unfrosted sugar cookies for them to decorate as his birthday treat. I don't mind a bit, but it's one more thing to cram into that day. He's having his friend party that night: we're taking five kids to a local comedy club and then having them for a sleepover. Family party is on Sunday. And sometime in here, birthday presents must be acquired. It's fun, but it does tend to be a lot of work.

Speaking of which, I must get on with mine. Take care now, you hear?

birthday, computers hate me
