I like this post! I don't think I ever hated RPS - it just weirded me out before, but I shrugged and moved on. Fandom is fandom. There's always been a distinction b/w fiction (fan or not) and RL for me, even though some of my favorite fics are incredibly realistic. For me, it was harmless fun writing about fictionalized people based off real people, if it struck someone's fancy. It didn't strike my fancy before kpop (...okay except for a brief stint with jpop), and now it does. It's still fiction, if fed by "canon" irl events. Plus it's for fun - entertainment. I would never believe this is omgtru2life.
I haven't really gotten into Epik High fandom/been to a concert/seen them irl, so I don't know if it would be too strange for me to still write Tablo in that case. It might. It might not. It's hard for me to say, but I totally understand where people are coming from regarding that - one of the reasons I'm less bothered by kpop slash is because I write in English and they read in Korean. I would definitely be a little more @_@ if I were writing P!atD slash, knowing they go on LJ and read stuff like this. (Makes me wonder if SJ does this to Korean fics, really...)
And fannish entitlement? Bah. I have no more comments on that.
To be honest, I couldn't tell you now why I was so vehement about the hate. My brain just said "WRONG WRONG WRONG" without ever stopping to question.
Realistic is the word I was looking to use while writing this post. It kept eluding me for some reason.
Exactly! RPF is entertainment about my entertainment. :D
I definitely think the language barrier has a lot to do with me being less bothered by it. I made an entry about why EH fangirls have made me want to stay far, far away (explanation in the comments) because of how some of them have just crossed a line.
So I'm reading over the rest of the comments on this thread and was all "yes, ooh, good point, I agree" (particularly Sapphy's comment lol, yay meta), but then I got totally derailed. And you'll probably know why. Because now all I can say is:
