It's true in eeeevery fandom I've ever been in that people will gentle pet and forgive male performers every tiny thing, but female performers get so much shit. It does seem to be especially bad in Kpop fandom, but then everything seems to be especially bad in Kpop fandom -- people don't die or get nearly killed in Supernatural fandom, for one, for all people talk shit about it.

Honestly I think it's just important to keep in mind that everybody is just a person, and they're all working in a really fucking difficult and exhausting business, and without the same or equivalent freedoms and returns that one gets in a Western market. That business is impossibly brutal, and there aren't nearly the usual kinds of stops and saves in place that can protect a talent from dangerous situations -- especially for these super young girls like SNSD and Wonder Girls who are pretty much slave to the whim of usually male higher ups and handlers until they get really, really big, and even then, mostly, it doesn't seem to protect them much. I'm kind of the opposite of you, I don't really care about Wonder Girls but I really like SNSD (less music and more "awwww") but both groups are in the same crappy boat, and it sounds like this new one is, too. :/ I just wish fans would remember that these are young girls they're screaming at for no good reason.

I agree with just about everything in this post. Well, minus the SNSD bit, but that's just personal taste.

I have officially given up badmouthing Supernatural fandom because you're right, it's got NOTHING on the kpop world.
