Watched a couple of behind-the-scenes videos that were extremely long. One for Hellboy, and one for Blade Runner.
It's amazing to watch the huge level of work that went into these movies. Two very distinct ways of making movies, two different master filmmakers. And pieces of basic filmmaking premise that filter through, mostly coming back to telling the story.
Blade Runner is more interesting in that sense, probably because the story is more deeply involved with human issues, as is the purview of Phillip K. Dick. Hellboy is less so, though still intertwined with emotional humanity... also used to tell the story.
The stories are human. They both have added love stories attached to them. The emotional strings being pulled are the ones that make the stories interesting.
Blade Runner has no CGI. Hellboy has some, but DelToro wanted as much as possible to be practical effects. There were still some 800 digital effects shots.
And Selma Blair as Liz Sherman... pulls all of my strings, baby.
I did some shooting with Darthcam out on walkies tonight. Some playing, some location scouting. Shot some of me walking the dog. I still have a long way to go.
There's a lot of crap tumbling around inside. I'm not ready to talk about it because I can't get a handle on it completely yet. It's a feeling more than anything, but it's a feeling that has shape and volume, texture and depth.
