Donald Loves Emeril!

Emeril is coming to the Fort Lewis PX in October and DJ is just as excited as I am! We are both total Food Network junkies and we are also fans of several chefs! (Dah, like you didn't figure THAT out when we did our famous hunt for the "Lady and her Sons" in Savannah a few months back!) Of course, Emeril is at the top of our list, I've got one or two of his cookbooks and DJ has loved everything to come out of them thus far! So while we were out shopping this week we found that Emeril had published two new books! Both are cookbooks and one is for families and one for kids. Of course DJ had to beg for BOTH copies, not like it was much of a battle with me though (I am willing to do anything to get DJ into the kitchen with me more often)! I cherish the times I have had in the kitchen with various members of my family so I look forward to making similar memories with my son!

Anyways, after the housework was done today, we headed out to town to pick up supplies for DJ's first self styled dinner. Yes, he got out one of the new books, picked three recipes, and made a shopping list on his own. Then we went to town for the supplies and came home for an hour of family cooking. Jim prepped things that required cutting and I helped DJ find all of his ingredients. Aside from handling the raw chicken and taking things in/out of the oven, he did everything on his own!

So tonight we feasted on chicken nuggets w/ honey mustard dipping sauce, oh-yeah-baby glazed carrots, and make-lots-of-friens oven baked french fries. DJ followed the recipes in "Emeril's There's a Chef in my Soup" making his own substitutions to make it "healthier for mom" like using special K plus protein cereal instead of regular corn flakes for the crust on the nuggets and sugar free products when things like honey, maple surup, and BBQ sauce were needed! He is such an amazing kid folks! It was such a wonderful evening and the food freaking rocked!
