Just thinking...

On the way home from Jim's office I got to thinking about timing... how the timing of things can work out when we least expect them to...

I was thinking about our plans of buying our first home. Even if we can only put away a few hundred dollars each month for the next 16 months and save his combat pay we still have some options for saving up for a sizeable down payment. Consider the timing of Jim's deployment, which has him leaving out of here before we get 2006's tax return and then he comes home from overseas just as we are applying for 2007's tax return. As long as (when I start working) I only claim 1 on my exception... we should have two REALLY good tax returns that we can use as down payment too! That will help things out immensely, and we can always fall back on the IRA if we really want to use it but I'd rather just save that for our retirement... KWIM? We also have a nice amount of bonds that I could either hold onto until retirement or cash out now and invest it better for the house.

Hmmmm... Maybe I should talk to my uncle and see if I could set up an allotment out of my paychecks that he can take and use to invest for us while Jim is gone... once we are ready to buy our home we can cash them out and improve our ability to make a better down payment. Hmmmmm....

I've never really considered all this investing nonsense (well at least not since HS economics class)! I guess I had better school myself up soon if I want to pull off this first home thing in a year and a half! LOL!
