*The time: Three am. The place: Rome. It is dark and near silent on the narrow winding streets in the small commercial district. The gibbous moon shines on white walls and rolled awnings. Only cats and dogs and pigeons are out this late, roaming through the streets in search of leftover bits of bread and meat from the day's activities. Everything is muted in the before-dawn hush. Except one very loud cackle.*
